In Go Noi Commune, the story of Tran Thi Thu Trang, who is six months pregnant, has deeply moved many. After her home was severely flooded and most of her belongings were nearly destroyed, she said the assistance helped her “afford essential items again and better prepare for the arrival of her baby.”

Also in Tang Binh Village, Nguyen Thi Ha Nhan, who is just days away from giving birth, said she still vividly remembers the moment when floodwaters rose “above her pregnant belly.” For her, the assistance arrived at a time when it was “truly most needed.”

Speaking at the distribution event, Nguyen Van Tien, Deputy Director of the Department of Dike Management and Disaster Prevention and Control under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in Da Nang, stated: “Typhoons No. 12 and No. 13 have caused extensive damage, severely affecting the livelihoods and production activities of local people. We highly appreciate Plan’s timely support and spirit of cooperation, and we hope that beneficiaries will use this assistance practically and effectively, prioritising urgent needs, especially for vulnerable groups such as children, women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.”

This marks the first time Plan International Vietnam has implemented emergency relief activities in Da Nang. Although the city is not currently within the Plan’s project areas, it has been identified as a location with strong potential for long-term cooperation.

According to Pham Thu Ba, Human Resources and Organisational Development Manager of Plan International Vietnam, “The swift, transparent and responsible coordination of the local authorities has further strengthened our confidence in the need for long-term cooperation programs, especially in the context of increasingly extreme climate change and more complex natural disasters.”

Alongside its long-term development programs, emergency relief and early recovery support are among Plan International Vietnam’s key priorities, particularly as natural disasters continue to grow in frequency and complexity. All of Plan’s humanitarian responses are implemented with careful consideration of gender sensitivity, ensuring that the distinct needs of women, girls, and other vulnerable groups are adequately addressed.
