Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, accompanied by his spouse and a high-level Vietnamese delegation, will depart from Hanoi on May 24 for an official visit to Malaysia and attendance at the 46th ASEAN Summit and related high-level meetings in Kuala Lumpur.
The trip, lasting until May 28, is made at the invitation of his Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim and his spouse.
The Vietnamese delegation includes Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Vu Hong Thanh, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung, Deputy Minister of National Defence Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Chairman of the Government Office Nguyen Sy Hiep, and Deputy Foreign Minister and head of the ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) delegation of Vietnam Do Hung Viet. Heads of Vietnam’s representative missions to Malaysia and ASEAN, along with leaders of various ministries and agencies, will also accompany the delegation.
This marks the first official visit by a Vietnamese PM to Malaysia in a decade, and the first visit by a key Vietnamese leader since the two countries elevated their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in November last year.
The 46th ASEAN Summit is the first high-level summit hosted under Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship themed “Inclusive and Sustainable.” In addition to ASEAN leaders' plenary sessions, the occasion will see the 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit.
