At the meeting, Vice Chairman Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized that after more than 35 years of partnership and cooperation, Vietnam-EU relations have remained stable and continued to develop strongly. The implementation of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) in recent years has played an important role in elevating bilateral trade cooperation to a new level.

In particular, the two sides upgraded their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in January 2026, making Vietnam the first ASEAN country to establish the highest-level relationship with the EU. The EU is also Vietnam’s fourth-largest trading partner and fifth-largest investor globally. “Vietnam highly values the EU’s role and strategic position as the world’s third-largest economy and a pioneer in promoting sustainable development, green transition, circular economy, digital transformation, just energy transition, as well as free trade,” the Vice Chairman stressed.

The Vice Chairman stated that Vietnam consistently prioritizes institutional reform, the creation of a synchronized, transparent, and development-oriented legal environment, and the formulation of policies supporting both domestic and foreign enterprises, including European businesses operating in Vietnam.

To effectively implement the Vietnam-EU Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the Vice Chairman proposed that the Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Vietnam and the Chairman of EuroCham promote exchange visits by European and Vietnamese business delegations to explore and seize opportunities for investment and business cooperation. These efforts would contribute to deepening and enhancing the effectiveness of Vietnam-EU economic and trade relations in parallel with the effective implementation of the EVFTA, thereby reinforcing and maintaining the position of the two sides as each other’s leading trade partners.

The Vice Chairman also called for continued efforts to encourage the parliaments of the remaining six EU member states to soon ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), contributing to a comprehensive breakthrough in Vietnam–EU investment cooperation similar to the impressive outcomes achieved following the implementation of the EVFTA. He also urged the European Commission (EC) to promptly remove the “yellow card” warning on Vietnamese seafood exports, based on recognition of Vietnam’s efforts in combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

EuroCham Chairman Bruno Jaspaert noted that Vietnam has made significant efforts and progress in institutional reform and in ensuring an attractive legal environment for investors and businesses, thereby contributing to improvements in the country’s business climate.

Bruno Jaspaert expressed his hope for continued support and cooperation from the Vietnamese Government, National Assembly, and competent authorities for the European business community.

EuroCham also expressed hope that the Vietnam-EU Comprehensive Strategic Partnership would be translated into concrete cooperation opportunities for both sides. At the same time, he affirmed that the EU could support Vietnam with capital and technology to help the country achieve its goals of rapid and sustainable growth. In particular, under the EU-initiated “Global Gateway Strategy,” the EU stands ready to invest in infrastructure, smart connectivity, green transition, and the circular economy.
