In his remarks, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung expressed his pleasure to officially meet his Singaporean counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan for the first time in his new position, VNA reported. Le Hoai Trung affirmed his desire to further promote the Vietnam-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as well as cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
The two Ministers welcomed the upgrade of bilateral relations to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, considering this as a milestone that opens opportunities to bring cooperation between the two countries to a new level; highly expressed the fact that the two sides have completed the Action Program for the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to be signed under the witness of the Prime Ministers of the two countries.
Also, the two sides agreed to continue to promote high-level delegation exchanges, effectively implement existing cooperation mechanisms, expand cooperation in the fields of Green Economy – Digital Economy, Economic Connectivity Agreement, upgrade the new-generation VSIP network to be greener and smarter, as well as strengthening cooperation on human resource training and smart city construction.
Another highlight of the meeting is the affirmation to continue the close coordination at regional and international forums, including ASEAN. Both sides agreed to maintain a common position on the South China Sea, promote the full implementation of the DOC and soon achieve an effective, substantive COC in accordance with the 1982 UNCLOS.
On this occasion, Minister Le Hoai Trung expressed his gratitude to Singapore for its urgent support, helping people in some northern provinces of Vietnam to overcome the consequences of storms and floods.
