On the afternoon of September 12, in Hanoi, An ninh Thu do newspaper’s Editorial Department for Special Features, together with Tan Hiep Phat Group, held a gathering for the children being supported under the “Together Toward a Brighter Future” program, providing regular assistance and presenting Mid-Autumn Festival gifts.

Meetings with the children in the “Steadfastly Walking into the Future Together” program are held regularly during holidays and Tet.

At the gathering, two children, Le Nhat Linh and Nguyen Dang Huy, were also recognized and presented with gifts after being admitted to college and university. Their achievements were a recognition of their own efforts and an encouragement as they embark on a new chapter of their lives.

Steadfastly nurturing young lives

At the gathering, Lieutenant Colonel Do Tran Quan, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of An ninh Thu do, expressed his happiness at seeing the children grow more mature, become more confident in communication and make steady progress in their studies.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Do Tran Quan, the achievements of the children are not only a source of joy for them and their families, but also provide further motivation for those accompanying them, including An ninh Thu do and Tan Hiep Phat Group, in their efforts to care for and nurture these “young lives.”

Lieutenant Colonel Do Tran Quan and a representative from Tan Hiep Phat presented Mid-Autumn Festival gifts to children participating in the “Steadfastly Walking into the Future Together” program.

For nearly 30 years, An ninh Thu do has consistently provided support to the children of police martyrs and orphaned children of police officers and soldiers. Regular assistance maintained over many years has helped ease the difficulties and losses faced by their families while providing the children with greater security and support to focus on their education.

“Supporting and caring for the children of police martyrs and orphaned children of police officers over the past several decades is not only a responsibility, but also a bond of affection that An ninh Thu do has maintained with the families of comrades who sacrificed their lives,” Lieutenant Colonel Do Tran Quan said.

“We hope that throughout their journey to adulthood, whenever they look back, they will always see that behind them are their fathers’ comrades—people who are always ready to be there as a source of support.”

Sharing responsibility, extending care

Speaking at the gathering, Nguyen Thi Cam Phuong, Deputy Director of External Affairs and Public Relations at Tan Hiep Phat Group, said the company had joined An ninh Thu do in the “Together Toward a Brighter Future” program because of a shared commitment to social responsibility and the values the program seeks to promote.

Gatherings such as Tet, International Children's Day, or the Mid-Autumn Festival bring joy not only to the children but also to their companions, who take delight in watching them grow and mature.

According to the company representative, police officers and soldiers have chosen a profession unlike most others, one that requires them to face danger and, in some cases, sacrifice their lives for the peace and safety of the people. Such sacrifices do not belong solely to an individual or a family. They represent values that society should honor, remember and carry forward through practical action.

For this reason, joining An ninh Thu do in caring for the children is also a way for Tan Hiep Phat to express its gratitude for the contributions and sacrifices of police officers and soldiers, while helping provide the children with greater support in their education and everyday lives.

“Through occasions such as Tet, International Children’s Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival, we hope to bring the children not only gifts, but also happiness and encouragement, so that they know there are always people who care about them and are willing to accompany them,” the company representative said.

“From that support, we hope they will gain greater confidence and determination to continue studying and developing themselves.”

This, the representative added, is also the common ground shared by An ninh Thu do, Tan Hiep Phat and the “Together Toward a Brighter Future” program: placing children at the center, emphasizing responsibility to the community and seeking to ensure that good values are carried forward.

“We believe that when sharing and caring are sustained through persistent and sincere actions, the support they receive today will become a foundation for the children as they confidently move forward into the future,” the Tan Hiep Phat representative emphasized.

A remarkable journey carried forward

Recalling her husband, who sacrificed his life in the line of duty, Doan Thanh Tra could not hide her emotion.

Fifteen years ago, she lost her beloved husband while he was carrying out a patrol on Thuy Khue Street. During a pursuit of two young men who were behaving suspiciously while riding a motorcycle without a license plate, First Lieutenant Le Van Sinh—her husband—was seriously injured. Although his colleagues rushed him to hospital for emergency treatment, his injuries were too severe and he did not survive.

At the time of her husband’s death, Mrs. Tra was only 32 years old. Their elder child was in first grade, while their second child was just over two years old. The couple were renting a house in Xuan Dinh and were still facing many financial difficulties. She sold goods at Dong Xuan Market, often leaving home early and returning late, while her husband not only performed his duties but also tried to care for the children and take them to and from school.

“On the day he died, the children were still so young. Before that, he usually took our older child to school, while I went to the market to sell goods and brought the younger one with me. There were days when the two of us were still out on the streets at 7 p.m. After he was gone, everything at home, taking care of the children and making a living all fell on my shoulders,” Mrs. Tra recalled through tears.

In the years that followed, she had to be both mother and father to her children. The younger child was taken in by her paternal grandmother and cared for until the age of five, allowing Mrs. Tra to continue working and supporting the family. They did not own a home and finances remained tight, but she continued doing everything she could to ensure that her children received a full education.

Those hardships and losses made her treasure every step of her children’s growth even more. For a mother, the greatest joy is seeing her children grow up, live meaningful lives and carry forward the values left behind by their father.

Her eldest son, Le Nhat Anh, born in 2003, was once supported by An ninh Thu do under its sponsorship program. He is now a police officer with the rank of Second Lieutenant, working at Ba Dinh Ward Police. Her second child, daughter Le Nhat Linh, born in 2008, has recently been admitted to the People’s Police College I.

“He is no longer here, but seeing our children grow into who they are today is also, in a way, a continuation of him. I only hope they will study hard, live decently and do their jobs well, so that wherever their father may be, he can rest assured,” Mrs. Tra said.

Mrs. Tra said her family deeply appreciates the care and companionship provided by An ninh Thu do and Tan Hiep Phat to her children. The regular support, together with visits and encouragement at the beginning of each school year or when the children achieve good academic results, has been a meaningful source of encouragement for the family.

“The aunts and uncles often ask about us and encourage the children. In particular, they always remind them to live well, care for others and, if they have the means in the future, help other people. To me, that is the most meaningful thing,” Mrs. Tra said emotionally.

For Le Nhat Linh, meanwhile, the care she has received from those accompanying her has become a cherished part of her childhood memories and journey into adulthood.

“I am very happy and grateful that the aunts and uncles have always cared about my family and encouraged my brother and me. Since I was little, I dreamed of working in the police force. Now that I have been admitted to the People’s Police College I, I have even more motivation to work hard and carry on my family’s tradition,” Nhat Linh said.

She said she would strive to study and train hard so that she could one day become a police officer worthy of her father’s sacrifice, as well as the trust and support of those who have cared for her family.
