Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Opens Doors for Vietnamese to Study in Hungary

Nguyen Le Yen Nhi, a former Stipendium Hungaricum student, delivered a speech at the event.

The event evaluated practical results during the 10 years of the Stipendium Hungaricum program's operation in Vietnam and discussed future directions for educational exchange between the two countries.

In his opening speech, Tibor Baloghdi, Ambassador of Hungary to Vietnam said that the Hungarian government established the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship program in 2013 to attract international talents to study in Hungary. In the process, international students receive thorough training from the Hungarian education system and have the opportunity to expand their network of friends and colleagues.

Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Training, Pham Quang Hung emphasized that 900 Vietnamese students are currently studying in Hungary, of which 578 enjoy the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship. As Vietnamese are showing a growing interest in the program, Hungary has increased the number of scholarships from 50 to 200.

Hungarian education has proved its excellence for more than 650 years with many impressive achievements. It is home to more than 15 Nobel Prize winners since 1905.

Professor Imre Felde, Vice Rector in charge of Business and Industrial Relations at Óbuda University, said that Hungary established cooperative relations with Vietnamese universities in 2013, including the signing of agreements and memorandums of understanding in science and education. With coordination from partners in Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City, the two sides began building and operating applied research and education projects.

Vietnamese international students in Hungary have shown their academic talent and dynamism in extracurricular activities. Therefore, the Hungarian government and educational institutes hope to further cooperate with Vietnamese professors and students in the future.
