Fifty-two years ago, in September 1973, when Quang Tri was still engulfed in the smoke and fire of war, Fidel Castro - the leader of the Cuban Revolution - became the first foreign head of state to set foot in the liberated zone of South Vietnam. That visit not only marked an enduring solidarity but also stood as a vivid symbol of internationalist spirit between the two nations.

A newly established cafe in Dong Ha city (the capital of Quang Tri province) named "Phieu" is the new favorite spot for admirers of President Fidel Castro and Latin America literature lovers.

In spite of geographical distance, one country in the Eastern Hemisphere and the other in the Western Hemisphere, Vietnam and Cuba have still maintained close relations since officially establishing diplomatic relations on December 2, 1960.

Cuban leader Fidel Castro was the first and the only foreign leader to visit the newly-liberated area in the south of Vietnam during the anti-US resistance war.
