Thousands More Houses To Be Built For Needy People in Dien Bien Province

About 7,000-8,000 houses will be built for the needy locals in the locality and some Northwestern provinces.

A ceremony was held on May 13 to launch a programme to provide housing support to poor households in the northern province of Dien Bien, which aims to build 7,000-8,000 houses for the needy in the locality and some Northwestern provinces within one year.

That is the goal of the program to build great solidarity houses for Dien Bien province launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF).

At the launching ceremony in Hanoi, the organizing committee awarded VND 200 billion (USD 8.5 million) to support the first phase to build 4,000 houses.

Along with agencies, organizations, collectives, individuals inside and outside of the country, the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) donated VND 1 billion (USD 42.600) to build 20 houses.

At the launching ceremony, Chairman of the VFF Central Committee Do Van Chien called on businesses, agencies, organizations, collectives and individuals in the country, overseas Vietnamese; cadres, civil servants, officers and soldiers of the armed forces, union members and members of socio-political organizations and people across the country join hands to support the ethnic minorities in Dien Bien province and the Northwest region.

State President Vo Van Thuong appreciated the initiative of the VFF, and welcomed the participation and response of a large number of representatives of organizations and institutions, agencies, localities, businesses and individuals.

President Thuong said that compared to the general development of the country, Dien Bien and the Northwest provinces still face many difficulties. Therefore, the goal of campaigning to build 7,000-8,000 houses for poor households within one year of the program "Million hearts of love - Thousand happy homes" showing the determination to ensure that all local households have safe shelters and sustainably escape from poverty, the President said.

The President suggested the local Party Committees and administrations of Dien Bien and northwestern provinces to show stronger performance in managing and optimising support resources and effectively implementing solutions to ensure social welfare and assist locals to get rid of poverty and lead a fuller and better quality life.

Along with promoting its historical tradition and cultural values, the provinces should mobilise all resources for their fast and sustainable development, he said.

Right at the launching ceremony, agencies, organizations, units, businesses, localities and individuals registered to support the program with a total budget of more than VND 280 billion (USD 11.9 million), equivalent to 5,600 houses.

Responding to the program, the VUFO donated VND 1 billion to build 20 houses for poor households in Dien Bien province.

The program to build great solidarity houses for Dien Bien province was launched from May 2023 to May 2024.

It is expected to support the construction of 7,000-8,000 houses for poor and near-poor households in Dien Bien province and some Northwest regions. Support level of VND 50 million/house and the total funding for support mobilization is estimated at VND 350-400 billion.

In addition to the above support level, all levels of Party committees, authorities, mass organizations, agencies, organizations and people's armed forces stationed in the locality together participate in mobilizing and supporting funding and materials to support the program.
