With another season in the year comes another round of new styles to try. The temperature is starting to shift, so it’s time to bring out your long coats, boots, and neutral shades, ready to layer. With the multifaceted lives we all lead these days, the old one-idea-fits-all mentality is no longer the best option, so replacing it with a more fluid, personal and endlessly adjustable approach is a far better way to reflect who we are on a daily basis. Here are top 9 fashion trends for 2022.

1. Sequins and metallics

Once the preserve of the festive season, sequins and metallics have been promoted to year-round wear, and deservedly so. Balenciaga’s glorious full-length silver dress looks like it has been beaten out of foil, while Rodarte embraced fringed metallic beading that echoes the Roaring Twenties. Bottega Veneta, meanwhile, went for a dress covered in sequins, each the size of a coin.

2. Beaded Embellishments

Elevate your everyday outfit to something spectacular with beads galore. This dainty and delicate embellishment is perfect for those who want to explore feelings of regality without commitment. Pair an encrusted mini dress with stockings and chunky boots for a ’70s punk vibe, or keep it casual with an oversized puffer coat. Add the decorations on a jacket, your favorite jeans, or a blouse, and mix it up with different layers for a year-round look.

Embellishments are pretty features of a garment. They serve as decorative details to make our clothing more appealing to the eyes. If you are making clothing as a source of income, adding embellishments adds value to the item, which in turn would give you more profit. Embellishments can make the difference of getting you noticed in a crowd or to stand out in that job interview. Any easy and low-cost embellishment might be to add fabric covered buttons to a garment.

When we wear clothing with a pretty embellishment on it, it boosts our self-confidence and we want to wear it to many events that we attend. A good looking garment with a striking embellishment gives us a sort of inner satisfaction, greater than what a plain piece of clothing would do. This applies especially to women who are adventurous when it comes to clothing. Some women like their shirts or dress to have some sparkly or flowery detail and it makes them feel prettier.

3. Cut-Outs

Cut-outs are a major trend this season. We’ve seen it from the runway to the red carpet and everywhere in between, and it’s easy to see why. This is an effortless way to be sexy and is a great throwback to the trending Y2K aesthetic. Take inspiration from designers like Nensi Dojaka, Stella McCartney, and Jacquemus this season with asymmetrical tight tops, slinky midi dresses, and trousers. You can wear them with similarly skin-tight elements, such as a leather skirt or flared trousers. Alternatively, blend casual and evening wear by adding denim into the equation, or you can seek inspiration from the corporate scene with an oversized suit.

The side cutouts are the most popular way to rock this trend, because you can easily show off a little skin without being too revealing. Cutout sizes can vary from small slits to full side panels.

A front cutout is the perfect way to show a little skin in your mid-section. Designs can vary from small shapes to dresses that give the illusion of separates. Keep in mind that this look is not for everyone.

Back cutouts are the most flattering for any figure. This extra detail is a fashionable way to appear a bit conservative at first glance, and then wow them as you walk away. Designers are featuring back cutouts in all style of dresses, a-line, maxi, sheath, etc, so find your favorite style and wear it in a trendy new way.

4. Jackets with Fringing Detail

Fringe has its moments in the spotlight every few years, and it’s coming back this season in a big way. This fun trend is an excellent way to add movement to your outfit. Originally used to prevent unraveling of hems, today it’s a huge fashion statement. Typically, you can find this fabric on the edge of denim, but we love it on blazers, wool coats, and capes. Mix and match different layers with this look, such as a long skirt, minimal accessories, chunky boots, or flared trousers – popular shades include neutrals such as brown, camel, cream, and khaki.

A longtime staple in the folk and country scenes, the fringe jacket was frequently seen as a wardrobe must-have on industry mavericks such as Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton and Joni Mitchell. As a style so deeply rooted in Americana traditional garb, the jump to mainstream wearing was an effortless transition. Incorporated in a more modern way by street style icons like Kendall Jenner, Katie Holmes and Miranda Kerr, the fringe jacket has received an updated look bringing the piece firmly into the present.

5. Clashing Prints

Whoever said you couldn’t wear clashing patterns never knew you could do it like this. For 2021, it’s all about mixing and matching different patterns that you may not have originally paired together. From snakeskin and ’70s swirls in greens and creams to a pair of multicolor Prada knee-high printed boots and a mustard geometric turtleneck. It’s all on the table with this trend. Break it up with a solid color in between, such as a navy blue suit, or a black vest, or a trench coat if the temperature drops.

The best way to find your print style is to get out there and try clothes on! Often you hear ‘that print isn’t flattering’ or ‘don’t wear stripes,’ but these ideas are simply out-dated and not true. Yes, some prints can be more flattering for the figure, but this doesn’t mean you can only wear these styles.

However, if you are conscious about going for flattering prints, it is usually suggested that you opt for ‘dense prints’ rather than ‘sparse prints.’ Sparse prints have more negative space (aka plain areas) around the design. This can lead to an uneven look and draw attention to certain parts of the body. Busier dense prints are a better option as they confuse the eye and don’t focus it on one body area.

Also, when choosing your print style, consider color and what you can pair the prints with. Think about the general color palette of your wardrobe. This will give you a better idea about what you subconsciously like wearing – use this as a guideline for buying your new printed garments.

Once you’ve found your print style or have an idea of color, you can start planning how to match or clash these prints. Clashing prints is a look that was once avoided. However, it’s made its way back into fashion, and many are starting to clash on purpose. When you think of clashing, you often think of intense, bold looks, but a clash can be less obvious when done well. Always remember that fashion is about expression and feeling good at the end of the day, so don’t worry if the clashes don’t work well initially.

6. Ruched Dresses

Ruching is a pleated, fluted, or gathered strip on a garment that's used for design purposes, but gives a slimming effect. The beauty of a ruched dress? How insanely flattering they are. Designers are experimenting with the technique, ruching asymmetrically, on sleeves, and in unexpected ways.

The iconic ruched dress has been turned on its head this season. This flattering and versatile outfit option makes a great choice for any occasion and is easily dressed up or down. Try a mini dress with exaggerated gathering – this is a fun alternative to the traditional silhouette and is perfect for the transitional time. Added elements to the outfit, like an asymmetrical shoulder, fringe, or mixed textures, will add depth to the ensemble. Add a few classic accessories, namely gold jewelry or leather gloves. The best footwear options include anything from knee boots or sneakers or strappy sandals.

7. Tight Catsuits

A catsuit is a one-piece form-fitting garment that covers the torso and the legs, and frequently the arms. They are usually made from stretchable material, such as lycra, chiffon, spandex (after 1959), latex, or velour, but may use less elastic materials, such as leather or PVC. Catsuits frequently close by means of a zipper at the front or back. A catsuit is regarded as outerwear, but not normally street wear. Catsuits are also used for sexualization or other types of sexuality.

Keep hot girl summer all season long by adding a catsuit to your wardrobe. This body-skimming outfit is extremely sexy but also versatile enough to wear almost anywhere. Whether you’re adding an oversized coat for juxtaposition – à la Kim Kardashian – or you’re showcasing every inch of your silhouette, you can rock it in any season. Stick to solid, dark, or neutral shades if you want to pair them with a myriad of jackets or accessories, or you could step outside the box with a bold print, such as Prada or Pucci-inspired patterns. For maximum results, ensure that the rest of your outfit fits into the color palette or shares a similar theme.

8. Oversized Suits in Natural Tones

We’ve seen oversized suits on and off the runway for a hot minute, but this season we’re keeping it natural. This flattering and multifaceted ensemble choice can look amazing anywhere, making it an excellent choice for the office, a brunch date, or a trip to the market. Sometimes simple is best – a basic T-shirt with sneakers or slides are all you need for a subtle and stylish outfit. On the opposite end, a slinky turtleneck and stilettos are a perfect match in the colder months. But when the weather warms up, show a little skin with a camisole or crop top underneath – add a sexy twist by going natural underneath.

Every year spring makes us wear more color and brighter clothes after months of mostly black and dark-colored outfits. This spring, you can find two-piece sets in all colors of the rainbow in stores and online. Most trending is currently bright colors, such as the trend color “illuminating” yellow. If you want to hop on the trend and wear a colorful suit, you can either wear the trend colors all over or only one piece, a detail or accessory to add an eye-catcher.

If you want it even more eye-catching, you can go for oversize suits with bold patterns and prints this season. Colorful floral prints or check patterns are what you should wear if you want to go with the trend. My favorite is an oversize suit with a check pattern because the combination of both creates a very casual yet eye-catching look.

9. Stone Color Coats & Trouser Sets

Neutrals are all the rage this season, and one trend we’re spotlighting is the stone suit so-ord. Effortlessly transition from summer to fall with a pair of light trousers and a matching coat – add a crisp white shirt or turtleneck for monochrome and clean silhouette. The beauty behind this palette is the range of coordinating shades you incorporate. Forget browns, grays, and black – try your hand at yellow, orange, and blue for a splash of color. Make sure you steer clear from messy food when rocking this look.
