Two concerts at the HCM City Music Conservatory will feature Vietnamese and Korean artists this weekend.

The Asian Melodies event, to take place tomorrow night, includes 17 Korean artists from the troupe Deobureosup Music, one of the region’s leading traditional music troupes.

Vietnamese and Korean folk pieces, including Trở Về Tây Nguyên (Returning the Central Highlands), Heothuntrum and Phannoreum, will be performed.

They will play traditional instruments, including the Gayageum (Korean zither-like string instrument), Geomungo (Korean stringed musical instrument of the zither family with both bridges and frets), and Geomungo Sogeum and Piri flutes.

The Deobureosup was established in 2014 and is known for both traditional and contemporary music styles. It has won several top prizes at traditional music competitions and festivals in Korea and other Asian countries.

Asian Melodies will also feature Vietnamese artists, including Nguyễn Hồng Mỹ Linh and Lê Thị Thu Thảo of the HCM City Music Conservatory.

The April Concert event will feature the Saigon Philharmonic Orchestra led by conductor Trần Vương Thạch. The performance includes works by Beethoven, Strauss, Rossini, Bizet and Carl Maria von Weber.

Both concerts will take place at the conservatory’s Music Hall, 112 Nguyễn Du Street, District 1.

Tickets, ranging from VNĐ100,000 (US$4.5) to VNĐ200,000 ($9), are available at the box office. Entrance is free for students.
