UK to loan USD1.6 billion to Indonesia

UK Prime Minister David Cameron on July 27th said his Government would loan GBP1 billion (USD1.6 billion) to Indonesia to help finance infrastructure projects.

Measures will include helping to improve security at airports, enhanced cooperation on terrorism investigations and the training of Indonesian police officers in Britain, he said.

Possible projects include a GBP400 million sewage treatment system in the capital of Jakarta, and geothermal power plant projects worth GBP66 million.

Cameron arrived in Indonesia on the first stop of a four-day trip, accompanied by 30 British business leaders and Minister of State for Trade and Investment Francis Maude, before he heads to Singapore, Vietnam and Malaysia.

During his Southeast Asian trip, the UK Prime Minister is expected to seal trade deals worth more than GBP750 million./.
