Speaking at the reception, Vice President Dong Huy Cuong said that since the end of the war, Vietnam and the United States, especially the people's organizations and veterans of the two countries, have actively coordinated to overcome the consequences of the war.

In the search for US soldiers missing in action in Vietnam (MIA), more than 1,200 remains have been found and more than 700 have been identified. On the Vietnamese side, thanks to information and documents provided by US partners, many martyrs' remains have been found.

According to Vice President Dong Huy Cuong, in his speech at the high-level discussion of the 78th United Nations General Assembly (September 19, 2023, in New York - USA), former US President Joe Biden highly appreciated the Vietnam - US relationship, emphasizing: "No one could have imagined that one day the US President would stand next to Vietnamese leaders in Hanoi and declare his commitment to promoting cooperative relations at the highest level." Dong Huy Cuong affirmed: "This achievement has great contributions from the two countries' people's organizations, veterans, and their relatives".

Steven Charles Morrissey thanked the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, the United States Institute of Peace, and agencies and organizations of the two countries for supporting him in finding the remains of his relatives. He expressed his emotion when witnessing the families of veterans of the two countries put the past behind them and work together to overcome the consequences of war.
