Speaking at the ceremony, Dong Huy Cuong, Vice President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, reiterated the significance of November 29th - a date chosen by the United Nations General Assembly in 1977 for the world to express its support for the just struggle of the Palestinian people.

He emphasized that, as a nation that has endured thousands of years of struggle to defend its country, the Vietnamese people understand the pain of war and the value of peace. Therefore, Vietnam's solidarity with the Palestinian people "stems not only from reason or international law but also from the heart, from deep empathy."

Over the years, the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, the Vietnam Committee for Solidarity with the Palestinian People, and the Vietnam - Palestine Friendship Association have carried out many meaningful activities: rallies, photo exhibitions, and screenings of documentary films about the country and people of Palestine. Images of the resilience of the people of Gaza, especially the children, have always deeply moved the Vietnamese public. This spirit of solidarity has spread widely throughout society - from veterans, intellectuals, artists, to students. Voices of support for peace and opposition to violence from the Vietnamese people have contributed to affirming the consistent stance in support of the Palestinian cause.

At the ceremony, Dong Huy Cuong reiterated Vietnam's firm stance, affirmed by President Luong Cuong in a message sent to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, President of the UN General Assembly Annalena Baerbock, Chairperson of the UN Commission on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People Coly Seck, and President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People:

Firstly, call on all parties to abide by the ceasefire agreement, cease hostilities, respect international humanitarian law, and protect civilians; facilitating emergency relief and reconstruction in Gaza.

Secondly, strongly support the role of the UN Secretary-General and especially the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA); call on the international community to increase financial and human resources support.

Thirdly, affirm a comprehensive peaceful solution based on international law and United Nations resolutions; guarantee the inalienable national rights of the Palestinians, including the right to establish an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with its pre-1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital.

According to the message, on November 29th each year, the international community unites for the dignity, rights, justice, and self-determination of the Palestinian people. He called for full support for essential humanitarian relief efforts for the Palestinian people, particularly through the work of UNRWA.

“On this International Day of Solidarity, let us draw inspiration from the Palestinian people themselves, whose resilience and hope are a testament to the human spirit. Let us stand in solidarity with their rights to dignity, justice and self-determination - and work together to build a peaceful future for all,” wrote Antonio Guterres.
