The Embassy of Vietnam in Brazil has recently coordinated with relevant ministries and agencies of the two countries to organize the seminar titled “Opportunities for the Development of the Vietnam-Brazil Smart Agriculture Value Chain” in both in-person and online formats, attracting more than 50 delegates from management agencies, research institutions, industry associations, and the business communities of both countries.

Speaking at the seminar, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi emphasized that Vietnam and Brazil are placing high priority on the development of smart agriculture - considered a strategic orientation to increase productivity, enhance product value, apply digital technologies, and improve traceability, amid mounting pressures on global agriculture from climate change and sustainability requirements.

According to Ambassador Bui Van Nghi, Vietnam has achieved significant progress in agriculture through the application of advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), smart sensors, and blockchain, helping to boost productivity by 20-30 percent and reduce costs. He also highlighted the positive outcomes of bilateral relations since Vietnam and Brazil upgraded their ties to a Strategic Partnership in November 2024, along with the Action Program for the 2025-2030 period aimed at promoting comprehensive cooperation.

Bilateral agricultural cooperation has gone beyond seminars and has recorded concrete progress in 2025. During Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s visit to Brazil, the two sides witnessed the export ceremony of the first container of Brazilian beef to Vietnam. At the same time, Vietnam expanded its exports of products such as pangasius and basa fish to the Brazilian market, opening a new era for agricultural cooperation.

Both countries have expressed their desire to establish a Joint Working Group between Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock to implement high-level commitments, concretize market access for key agricultural products, promote direct investment in agriculture, and develop value-added products such as coffee under a joint Vietnam-Brazil brand.

On the trade front, Brazil is currently Vietnam’s largest trading partner in Latin America, with steadily growing bilateral trade and a target of reaching USD 15 billion by 2030 through expanded cooperation in agriculture, processed products, and other sectors.

Smart agriculture cooperation between the two countries reflects their efforts to promote sustainable production, meet domestic and international market demand, and contribute to the broader goals of both nations in maintaining food security, developing a green economy, and integrating more deeply into global value chains.
