Vietnam, Cuba to Boost Cooperation in Health Sector

One of the highlights of the trip is the meeting between the Vietnamese delegation and Cuban Deputy Health Minister Tania Margarita Cruz Hernandez. In the meeting, both sides highlighted the traditional and exemplary relationship in the health sector between the two countries, cemented since the times of President Ho Chi Minh and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
The Vietnamese deputy health minister emphasized that collaboration has been effective in areas such as medical training, technology transfer, disease prevention, and joint vaccine development.
The discussion also focused on deepening practical, sustainable, and mutually beneficial cooperation, with an emphasis on pharmaceutical development, joint venture creation, technology transfer, and specialized training in oncology, cardiology, and immunology. Joint research on emerging diseases and strengthening ties between hospitals in both countries will also be prioritized.
Meeting with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, Vice Minister Do Xuan Tuyen reported on the results of the visit and announced the creation of a Vietnamese-Cuban joint venture in the pharmaceutical sector.

The Cuban president hailed this step as a milestone in bilateral relations and the fulfillment of the agreements reached with the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, in September 2024. He noted that this alliance will allow to produce essential medicines for both peoples.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen witnessed the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement in the pharmaceutical sector between representatives of BioCubaFarma SA (Cuba) and Vietnam.
Vice Minister Do Xuan Tuyen emphasized that the project has the support of both governments and is especially significant given its completion in 2025, the year that marks the 65th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations. President of BioCubaFarma, Mayda Mauri Pérez, stated that this collaboration will open a new stage in the joint development of biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry between Vietnam and Cuba.
From May 17-22, Vietnamese delegation also visited the Cuban Regulatory Authority for Medicines, Equipment, and Medical Devices, the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, the Center for Molecular Immunology, and the Vietnamese Embassy in Havana.
