On June 29, during a farewell meeting with Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria Tran Quoc Khanh at the conclusion of his diplomatic tenure, Speaker of Algeria’s Council of the Nation (Senate) Azzouz Nasri expressed his wish to further promote relations with Vietnam’s National Assembly, thereby reinforcing the effectiveness of the Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
At the meeting, Speaker Azzouz Nasri highly praised the traditional friendship between Algeria and Vietnam, which was forged through their shared historical struggle against colonialism, mutual solidarity and support, and respect for national sovereignty and the right of peoples to self-determination. He emphasized that bilateral relations have continued to develop positively, particularly since they were elevated to a Strategic Partnership in November 2025.
Speaker Nasri affirmed that Algeria, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, attaches great importance to effectively implementing the Strategic Partnership framework with Vietnam by strengthening political dialogue, expanding cooperation in the fields of economy, investment and trade, as well as promoting cultural and people-to-people exchanges. He also commended the close coordination between the two countries at regional and international forums on issues of shared concern.
Introducing Algeria’s foreign policy toward Africa, President Nasri noted that the country is implementing a number of initiatives to support the continent’s development, including a USD 1 billion program through the Algerian International Cooperation Agency for Solidarity and Development to finance infrastructure, healthcare, education and energy projects across several African countries.
For his part, Ambassador Tran Quoc Khanh expressed his gratitude to the leadership of Algeria’s Council of the Nation and relevant authorities for their attention, support and favorable conditions throughout his tenure, enabling him to successfully fulfill his duties. The Ambassador reaffirmed that Vietnam consistently attaches importance to developing its Strategic Partnership with Algeria and wishes to further expand cooperation in areas with significant potential, including agriculture, industry, culture, trade and investment, thereby making bilateral relations increasingly substantive and effective.
Both sides also expressed satisfaction with the convergence of their positions on many regional and international issues and agreed to continue coordinating closely and supporting each other at multilateral forums.
Regarding parliamentary cooperation, President Nasri expressed his desire to strengthen relations with Vietnam’s National Assembly by promoting the exchange of parliamentary delegations, sharing legislative experience, enhancing coordination at regional and international parliamentary forums, and further leveraging the role of the two countries’ Parliamentary Friendship Groups in advancing bilateral relations.
On this occasion, Ambassador Tran Quoc Khanh conveyed Vietnam’s invitation to President Azzouz Nasri to pay an official visit to Vietnam at a mutually convenient time, with a view to further consolidating and deepening the friendship and Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
