	UNESCO to Examine 30 New Nominations for World Heritage List

According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in the Republic of Korea, the Korea Heritage Service said the declaration called for global cooperation to address increasingly complex risks to world heritage, including armed conflict, climate change, and development pressure.

A key content of the declaration is the recommendation of adding “Collaboration” to the current 5 strategic objectives (5C) of the World Heritage Convention, including Credibility, Conservation, Capacity-building, Communication and Community; thereby, forming a set “6C” of objectives.

This reflects increasing demand in shared responses by countries and organizations to challenges which no single nation can tackle alone.

The declaration also highlighted the demand to use digital technologies responsibly, including generative artificial intelligence (AI), first appearing in the history of world heritage conservation. The KHS noted that it would immediately implement 12 follow-up programs to transfer the declaration into concrete action.

A day earlier, the 48th Session of the World Heritage Committee under UNESCO was inaugurated in Busan with the attendance of around 3,000 delegates from member states, observer organizations, non-government organizations, and scholars to discuss the preservation of cultural and natural heritage.

The Session lasts until July 29, and it will consider 30 new nominations for the World Heritage List and 3 proposed modifications to existing listed heritage, while reviewing the status of preservation of the existing 174 heritage sites. The delegates will also discuss issues related to heritage preservation, management, and the World Heritage Convention implementation. This is the first time the Republic of Korea has hosted the session since it joined the UNESCO World Heritage Convention in 1988.
