Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Pham Thi Kim Hoa handed over the gifts to representatives of the Chamber of Deputies of the Federal Republic of Brazil.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Brazil Pham Thi Kim Hoa, on behalf of the National Assembly of Vietnam, transferred to made-in-Vietnam 10,000 medical masks the Chamber of Deputies of the Federal Republic of Brazil as a symbol of solidarity, friendship, and cooperation between the two nations.

Speaking at the meeting, the ambassador affirmed that Vietnam delighted at the increasing role and position of Brazil in the international arena, attaching importance to strengthening and expanding the comprehensive partnership between the two countries after the two countries set up diplomatic ties more than three decades ago on May 8, 1989, especially since 2007 when they established a comprehensive partnership.

The Covid-19 pandemic continues to be complicated with the emergence of many new strains, so it is very necessary for the close cooperation of the international community to try to control together and repel the health crises, she stressed.

Hoa also expressed sadness and concern about the unprecedented devastation caused by Covid-19 in recent times. On this occasion, the Ambassador also conveyed her greetings to President of the Chamber of Deputies Arthur Lira and looked forward to visiting him in Brazil when conditions permit.

Receiving the donation, representative of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies Natália Morato voiced her gratitude for the precious gift of the National Assembly and the Vietnamese people, considering it a strong symbol of friendship and solidarity between two countries.

Brazil greatly admires and congratulates the achievements of Vietnam's economic development, especially the successes in the prevention and control of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Natália also affirmed that the Brazilian Parliament in general and the Brazil-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group, in particular, will be a bridge to further promote the comprehensive cooperation and development between the two countries.

The meeting at the lower house of the National Congress of Brazil.

Though Vietnam has done exceptionally well in quickly containing Covid-19, the pandemic has taken an unprecedented toll on its economy.

However, since the beginning of the pandemic, the Government of Vietnam and its people have shown solidarity with international friends in combating Covid-19, by mobilizing funds from individuals and businesses in Vietnam to purchase medical supplies as well as raising cash donations.

The aid illustrates Vietnam’s continued willingness to assist other countries on a bilateral and multilateral basis to the best of its abilities even as it continues to remain cautious about managing its own coronavirus challenge at home.

Brazil has recorded the second-deadliest outbreak of coronavirus in the world and continues to average more than 2,000 deaths per day. More than 425,000 people have died from Covid-19 since the pandemic began, according to the Health Ministry.

In 1994 the Brazilian Embassy was inaugurated in Hanoi, followed in 2000 by the inauguration of the Vietnamese Embassy in Brasilia. Since then bilateral relations have expanded and the ties of friendship and co-operation intensified.

Despite the complex developments of Covid-19, two-way trade still reached USD 5 billion in 2020. Vietnam ranks second among Asian nations that have set up trade ties with Brazil.
