Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha on July 11 had an online meeting with Alok Kumar Sharma, Minister for the Cabinet Office of the United Kingdom and President for COP26, discussing cooperation in response to climate change.

Minister Tran Hong Ha said that Vietnam has drastically realized its commitments at COP26 and has made significant progress.

The National Strategy on Climate Change by 2050 has showed views on the roles, priorities, responsibilities, methods and resources for responding to climate change. It sets out general and specific goals on adaptation to climate change and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, shows the main targets in phases by 2030 and by 2050 to ensure net zero emissions.

The strategy also sets out tasks and solutions to adapt to climate change, mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, improve institutions, strengthen potentials and resources to respond to climate change.

Minister Tran Hong Ha said that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has coordinated with foreign partners to mobilize experts and develop a plan to update the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) in 2022.

The content of Vietnam's 2022 NDC will follow the 2020 content, adding actions to realize Vietnam's commitments at COP26.
