Vietnam, France Prioritizes Strengthening Multifaceted Cooperation

Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung expressed his delight at the strong development of Vietnam-France relations. He affirmed that Vietnam always attaches great importance to strengthening multifaceted cooperation with France, the first EU member state Vietnam has a comprehensive strategic partnership.

In order to effectively implement the results of the visits of the two countries' senior leaders over the past time, especially the visit to France by General Secretary To Lam (October 2024) and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh (June 2025), and the visit to Vietnam by French President Emmanuel Macron (May 2025), the Vietnamese diplomat proposed that the two sides strengthen political trust through delegation exchanges at all levels, all channels of the Party, State, National Assembly and people's diplomacy. It is also crucial to promote the focal and pioneering role of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership to align with the stature of the new relationship framework.

Also, he proposed that the two sides make the most of the space for economic, trade and investment cooperation; proposed that France soon ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and encourage the EC to soon remove the IUU yellow card for Vietnamese seafood to contribute to further promoting cooperation between Vietnam and the EU.

In response, Minister of Europe and French Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot highly appreciated Vietnam's role in the region. He affirmed that the high-frequency contacts and exchanges with substantive and comprehensive content between the two countries' senior leaders over the past time are concrete proof of the highly trusting partnership between the two countries, creating a strong momentum to promote bilateral cooperation in the coming time further.

The French diplomat affirmed that France wishes to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in the strategic fields of energy, transportation, aerospace, and so on. France will also cooperate with Vietnam to promote multilateralism, contributing to solving global challenges.

The two sides agreed to promote the new pillar of cooperation in science and technology in bilateral relations. France supports Vietnam in improving its capacity in new technology fields, such as biology, digital technology, semiconductor, quantum, and digital infrastructure development. More exchange activities on issues of mutual interest will be carried out, promoting inter-regional cooperation between ASEAN and the EU, and contributing to peace, stability and development of the region and the world.
