Vietnam hosts first International Vietnamese martial arts championship

(VNF) - Martial artists from 30 countries gather in Ho Chi Minh City to compete in the first world championship of traditional Vietnamese martial arts from July 26th – 29th.

The championships have the participation of nearly 250 martial artists of 50 delegations from 27 countries and territories, including France, Germany, Spain, Australia, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia.

This is not the first time that traditional Vietnamese martial arts have been featured in an international event, as five festivals and five international competitions have been held since 2006. However, this is the first world championship to be organized after the establishment of the World Federation of Vietnam Vo Co Truyen (WFVV) last August, marking the martial arts’ success in attracting global practitioners.

During the three-day festival, martial artists participate in five events, including free performances (demonstration, performing with weapons, and inpidual and collective performances); internal performances; tai chi; and competition events in 19 weight classes, with ten for male and nine for female.

The event will be held every two years, with the goal of attracting 60 countries by the year 2020 and promoting the practice of Vo Co Truyen in 100 countries and territories by 2030.
