On the evening of July 8 in Hanoi, US Ambassador to Vietnam Jennifer Wicks hosted a ceremony commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Independence Day of the United States of America. Attending the event were Politburo Member and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung; Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Hien, Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of National Defence; leaders of ministries and agencies; representatives of diplomatic missions and businesses; and numerous international friends.

Speaking at the ceremony on behalf of the Government of Vietnam, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung extended his congratulations to the Government and people of the US on the occasion of the country's 250th Independence Day. He noted that the US' remarkable development over the past quarter millennium has made it one of the world's leading powers, playing an important role in promoting global economic growth, innovation, and scientific and technological advancement.
Expressing confidence that a strong and prosperous US will continue to make positive contributions to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and around the world, Minister Le Hoai Trung also reviewed the major milestones in Vietnam-US relations. Since the normalization of relations in 1995, the two countries have continuously expanded cooperation, established a Comprehensive Partnership in 2013, and elevated ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023.
According to the Minister, this journey reflects the determination of both nations to put the past behind them and look toward the future, serving as a model in international relations for reconciliation and post-war relationship building.
Commending the commitment of the US to supporting a strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous Vietnam, Minister Le Hoai Trung affirmed Vietnam's wish to continue developing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the US in a stable, substantive, and effective manner, based on mutual respect for each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, political systems, and mutual benefit.

The Minister said that in the coming period, Vietnam will prioritize coordinating with the US to promptly conclude negotiations on a reciprocal trade agreement in a balanced and equitable manner, while promoting new breakthroughs in cooperation in science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, high-quality human resource development, and energy.
He also expressed the hope that the US would continue to uphold its role as a leading global power by making positive and responsible contributions to maintaining peace, stability, the rule of law, and inclusive and sustainable development in the region and the world.
On this occasion, Minister Le Hoai Trung congratulated Jennifer Wicks on assuming her duties as US Ambassador to Vietnam, expressing confidence that, with her experience and dedication, she will continue to serve as an important bridge, helping to further deepen and strengthen the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a more substantive and effective manner.
Speaking at the ceremony, US Ambassador to Vietnam Jennifer Wicks said she was honored to begin her tenure in Vietnam during the historic celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Independence Day of the US. She thanked the Vietnamese leaders, diplomats, business representatives, and distinguished guests for attending, affirming that their presence reflected the strength, depth, and dynamism of bilateral relations.

Ambassador Jennifer Wicks noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Vietnam and the US have overcome differences rooted in the past to build an increasingly comprehensive and robust partnership. According to her, the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is guided by a forward-looking agenda encompassing economic and trade cooperation, politics, security, law enforcement, healthcare, and education.
The Ambassador expressed her desire to continue working closely with Vietnamese partners to realize shared cooperation goals, thereby further advancing US-Vietnam relations in the years ahead.
