Vietnam multicolor through eyes of Japanese artist
VNF - A special painting exhibition commemorating 29th APEC Summit by Japanese artist Toba Mika will take place from October 20 to November 12 at the Museum of Sculpture in Da Nang city.
The works displayed at the exhibition are inspired by the beauty of nature, the ancientness and tranquility of Vietnamese cultural heritage. They are represented by the traditional Katazome dyeing technique of Japan.
"Through this, the author wants to portray the image of Vietnam with many intertwined colors, with both movement and change, and the deepening of the sedimentation of time," said Japan Menard’s representative. - the organizer of the event.
Painter Toba Mika is one of the prominent faces of Japanese contemporary art. In Japan, she has received 19 awards including “Urban Culture Incentive Award” and “Kyoto Arts New Artist Award”. In 2012, she received Foreign Minister’s Award for her contribution to promote friendship between Japan and Vietnam through her art work and cultural activities.
The artist came to Vietnam for the first time in 1994. Since then, she is a regular visitor to the country where she discovered an eventful life interesting contradictions and flexible moves that take her back to Japan of the 1960s. She has embarked on a series of large-scale works depicting the landscapes, colorful rivers, beaches and even street corners and trees of Vietnam which are transforming themselves before the wave of urbanization.
Toba Mika has had many exhibitions attracting a lot of attention in Vietnam such as: the exhibition to honor 30th Anniversary of Japan-Vietnam Diplomatic Relations, “Playing Eternal Music of Heart’’ (2015), Nara and Hanoi bound together with Katazome in commemoration of 1300th Anniversary of Nara Heijo-kyo Capital and 1000th Anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi (2010).
