Speaking at the Conference, Deputy Director of the Trade Promotion Agency (Ministry of Industry and Trade) Le Hoang Tai assessed that economic cooperation between the two countries is maintaining positive growth momentum.

According to data from Vietnam Customs, in the first 9 months of 2025, two-way import and export turnover will reach more than US $1.1 billion. In which Vietnam exported US$528 million and imported US$580 million from New Zealand.

"These numbers continue to affirm the huge room for cooperation for exporters and investors of both sides," said Tai.

Currently, Vietnam exports to New Zealand mainly items such as phones and phone components, footwear, computers and components, machinery and equipment, and textiles. Meanwhile, New Zealand has outstanding strengths in agricultural products, processed foods, dairy and agricultural supporting industries. These are sectors that can positively complement Vietnam's sustainable development strategy and ensure food security.

Le Hoang Tai highlighted Vietnam's advantages as one of the most dynamically developed economies in Asia, maintaining an annual growth rate of 6-7% in the period 2016-2024; the population size is more than 100 million people with over 60% of working age; participating in 16 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), including new-generation agreements such as CPTPP, RCEP, and EVFTA. These factors helped Vietnamese goods access more than 50 major markets in the world. Vietnam is also promoting green transformation, digital transformation, developing supporting industries and modern logistics systems, opening many opportunities for cooperation in production, processing, distribution and import and export with New Zealand.

"We encourage New Zealand's importers, distributors and retail groups to explore more high-quality sourcing from Vietnam; expand joint ventures and associations in the fields of food, sustainable agriculture, cold chain, green energy and e-commerce. We also hope that New Zealand will actively participate in trade promotion programs, fairs and direct trade (B2B) activities between the two countries, organized by the Vietnam Trade and Trade Promotion Agency in the host country," Tai emphasized.

On the other hand, Executive Director of the ASEAN-New Zealand Business Council (ANZBC) Liz Bell, said that the most important goal of the New Zealand business delegation is to find substantive cooperation opportunities with Vietnamese partners, creating new value for both economies.
