Nearly 1,600 delegates to attend 13th National Party Congress

As many as 1,587 delegates representing nearly 5.2 million Party members will attend the 13th National Party Congress scheduled to take place from January 25 to February 2, official has announced.

Hoang Binh Quan, member of the 12th-tenure Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC Commission for External Affairs made the announcement when briefing the diplomatic corps and representatives of international organizations about the Congress.

The diplomatic corps and representatives of international organizations in Viet Nam are invited to attend the opening and closing sessions of the 13th National Party Congress, said Quan.

He said that Viet Nam has obtained significant and historic achievements in the cause of building and safeguarding the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland since the “Doi moi” (Renewal) process was initiated 35 years ago.

The Communist Party of Viet Nam will continue to lead the country in accelerating comprehensive and synchronous reform and active international integration in favor of national construction and protection, Quan affirmed.

Regarding documents to be submitted to the upcoming Congress, Quan said these documents have been developed thoroughly in a constructive and democratic manner.

He said the Party has paid special attention to personnel work, considering it as a key task to ensure that the next Party Central Committee will be a united, pure and strong organization that that has strategic vision and creative mindset to lead the nation.

Foreign ambassadors and diplomats to the event, expressed their belief that the 13th National Party Congress will be organized successfully and set out guidelines and policies for the next development period, according to VGP.

VFF leader congratulates Laos on 11th Party Congress

President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Tran Thanh Man has sent his warmest congratulations to the Central Committee of the Lao Front for National Construction (LFNC) regarding the recent success of the 11th Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) for the 2021-2026 tenure.

In the letter, Man expressed his delight at the great and comprehensive achievements of historical significance the fraternal Lao people have reaped after more than three decades of renewal and the five-year implementation of the Resolution adopted by the 10th Congress of the LPRP and the eighth socio-economic development plan for the 2016-2020 period, which, he said, have constantly nurtured the strength of the Lao revolution and elevated Laos' prestige and position in the international arena.

He congratulated Saysomphone Phomvihane on being re-elected as a Politburo member of the LPRP (11th tenure) and expressed his belief that under the leadership of the new Politburo and the LPRP Central Committee, the Lao people will reap even greater achievements in the process of national construction and defence and successfully realise goals and political tasks set by the Resolution of the 11th Congress of the LPRP, according to NDO.

Vietnam asks ASEAN to purchase COVID-19 vaccines

Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung made the proposal at an ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) on January 19 to prepare for the upcoming ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat to be virtually hosted by Brunei.

Duing, who is Vietnam’s SOM Chair, also called on all ASEAN member states to fully operate the Regional Reserve of Medical Supplies (RRMS) to timely address pandemic challenges.

ASEAN Foreign Ministers endorsed the setting up of a regional fund to respond to the coronavirus pandemic during a meeting virtually hosted by Vietnam in April 2020.

Meanwhile, the ASEAN Regional Reserve of Medical Supplies (RRMS) was launched during the 37th ASEAN Summit presided over by Vietnam in November 2020, VOV reported.

U.S. returnee confirmed latest case of COVID-19

A 20-year-old man repatriated from the U.S. was confirmed the latest case of COVID-19 on Tuesday, raising the patient tally to 1,540.

The man landed at the Da Nang International Airport on January 13 and is being treated at the city’s Hospital for Lung Diseases.

Of the patient tally, 1,402 have recovered and exited hospitals while 35 others have been reported dead.

As the pandemic is still evolving swiftly and complicatedly around the world with the emergence of new strains, the Vietnamese Government ordered subordinate levels to strictly control borders in order to absolutely prevent illegal entrants.

Those who enter Viet Nam by land must be subject to mandatory quarantine at concentrated camps managed by the Army and shall not be required to pay quarantine accommodation fees.

Anyone who detects strange people or those likely to have returned from foreign countries need to report to local authorities, as reported by VGP.

Airlines plan to increase domestic flights during Tet

Domestic airlines will focus on exploiting routes around the country instead of international routes during the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) which will fall in the first half of February, according to Director of the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam Dinh Viet Thang.

According to VOV, Thang said that more than 1,000 flights will be operated each day, up 28 percent over the holiday in the previous year. Particularly, the number of the flights will reach 1,200 in peak days, he added.

Specifically, Vietnam Airlines and Vasco will operate 379 flights per day and even 504 flights in peak days, rising 35.5 per cent and 31 percent respectively over the previous Tet.

Meanwhile, Vietjet will have 371 flights per day averagely and 375 flights in rush days, and Bamboo Airways will operate 180 flights per day and 190 flights in peak days.

Pacific Airlines plans to have 124 flights per day averagely and 130 flights in rush days, up 25 percent and 28 percent compared to the previous Tet, respectively.

Thang added that the carriers will also increase night flights from 22:00 of each day to 7:00 of the next day.
