While in Indonesia, naval officers and sailors aboard the ship led by Colonel Nguyen Duc Nam, Vice Director of the Vietnam Naval Academy, visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia, the Vietnam defense attaché office and Fleet 1 of the Indonesian Navy, met with the Deputy Governor of Jakarta and joined sports exchange activities with the Indonesian Navy.
During the visit to Fleet 1 of the Indonesian Navy, Colonel Nam said he was impressed by training results achieved by the unit.
At his reception for the Vietnamese delegation on May 2, Deputy Governor of Jakarta Sutanto Soehodho briefed the guest on organisational structure, as well as challenges posing Jakarta in urban development.
Jakarta and some major cities in Vietnam share similarities, which enable the two sides to cooperate and share experience for mutual development, he said.
Colonel Nam expressed his belief that the visit will contribute to promoting effective exchanges and cooperation for development and stability of the two countries as well as their armies.
He said the visit by ship HQ-286 Le Quy Don had achieved the purpose and set plan in the training work and foreign affairs, as well as naval exchanges.
The sailing ship, which belongs to the training ship fleet of the Vietnam Naval Academy, is 67m long and 10m wide. Designed by Poland’s Choren Design & Consulting and built by Marine Projects in 2014, the ship was launched in June 1, 2015. It has a storage capacity that could supply crewmembers up to 45 days at sea.
