Could you elaborate on the key objectives and main messages that Party General Secretary To Lam will bring to the United States during his working visit beginning February 18, 2026?

At the invitation of US President Donald Trump, Party General Secretary To Lam will lead the Vietnamese delegation to attend the inaugural meeting of the Peace Council in Washington, D.C., on February 19, 2026, as a founding member.

The General Secretary, together with other members of the Council, will discuss and determine the tasks to be undertaken in order to implement the peace plan for the Gaza region in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2830.

The participation of Vietnam’s highest-ranking leader demonstrates Vietnam’s support for and readiness to join the collective efforts of the international community for peace and development.

This also concretizes the cooperation agreement on international issues within the framework of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

From a foreign policy perspective, could you share the significance of Vietnam becoming a founding member of the Peace Council?

Vietnam is a country that has endured many devastating wars and therefore deeply understands the value of peace, reconciliation, and post-conflict reconstruction.

The 14th National Party Congress affirmed that Vietnam will “proactively and responsibly participate more actively in addressing common international and regional issues.”

Vietnam’s role as a founding member of the Peace Council reflects that spirit, consistently implementing the Party’s foreign policy line and contributing to enhancing the country’s prestige and image.

At the same time, this presents an opportunity for Vietnam to leverage its experience and capabilities, as well as to learn and further integrate with other countries through coordinated efforts in fulfilling shared missions.

How does Vietnam plan to contribute within the framework of the Peace Council?

As a founding member, Vietnam wishes to work with other members to promote the Council’s role in advancing peace and rebuilding Gaza on the basis of the United Nations Security Council’s resolutions, ensuring the legitimate interests of all parties, especially those of the Palestinian people, in accordance with international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

Vietnam is not yet a wealthy country, but it possesses practical experience in addressing the consequences of war.

Vietnam stands ready to contribute human and material resources, within its appropriate capacity, to reconstruction efforts, socio-economic recovery, and support for stabilizing the lives of the people of Gaza.

In your view, how will this working visit provide additional momentum to Vietnam-US relations in the time ahead?

Although this working visit takes place within a multilateral framework, it also holds significant importance for bilateral Vietnam-US relations.

US President Donald Trump personally invited Party General Secretary To Lam to join the Council as a founding member and to attend this inaugural meeting.

The General Secretary’s participation represents support for peace efforts in general and for the Gaza reconstruction initiative in particular, thereby deepening cooperation between the two countries in addressing regional and global issues in line with the spirit of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Therefore, I believe that this working visit will continue to consolidate political trust, expand substantive cooperation, and generate further momentum for Vietnam-United States relations in the coming period.
