Vietnam took gold medals at 8th ASEAN School Games

Vietnam finished third at the ASEAN School Games (ASG) in Chiang Mai, Thailand with 19 gold, 20 silver and 15 bronze medals on July 27th 2016.

(VNF) - Vietnam finished third at the ASEAN School Games (ASG) in Chiang Mai, Thailand with 19 gold, 20 silver and 15 bronze medals on July 27th 2016.

Thailand took top position, winning 56 titles. Indonesia came in second with 30.

On the last day of competition yesterday, Vietnamese track-and-field athletes Le Trung Duc and Hoang Thi Trang won gold in the boy’s and girl’s 2,000m steeplechase, Tran Mai Hanh won the girl’s 200m race, and the Vietnamese girl’s 4x400m relay team also won gold.

Track-and-field events were Vietnam’s most successful team at the Games with 11 gold medals.

Vietnamese gymnastic athletes won four gold, five silver and five bronze medals.

Vietnam brought 64 athletes to the ASG, competing in track-and-field, gymnastics, swimming and table tennis.

ASG is a festival of sports programmes and activities for school children from the ASEAN countries. The first Games under the new format was held by Thailand in 2009. It is an annual event with member countries taking turns to host.

The closing ceremony will be on July 29th./.
