In the tournament, 5 Vietnamese markmen competed with around 15 rivals from region nations such as Thailand, Singapore, and Australia in the 10-metre air pistol event.

The competition earned Vietnamese markman Bui Quang Huy a gold medal, and his teammate Phan Xuan Chuyen a bronze medal.

The online tournament is considered a “mood-booster” for the markmen, a good opportunity to horn their skills after a long period of resting. Since early 2020, all international and domestic shooting tournaments have come to a halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with key local marksmen returning home due to the 2020 Olympic Games being pushed back to 2021.

Nguyen Thi Nhung, general secretary of the Vietnam Shooting Federation, said she would organize more such online competing events to help Vietnamese markmen sharpen their skills for Vietnamese athletes as they prepared to compete in the 31st Southeast Asian Games which were scheduled to be held underway in the country next year.
