Pham Nhu Phuong from Hanoi won Vietnam’s first gold medal in the gymnastics event in the uneven bars.

HCM City’s Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien bagged a gold medal in the pommel horse, while Hanoian Do Nam Anh also brought home a gold in the uneven bars.

Vietnamese gymnasts have also won five silvers and four bronzes.

On July 17, track-and-field athletes won two golds and two silvers.

Nguyen Trung Cuong of Hanoi took the lead in the boys’ 1,500m, while Ngo Thi Khanh Ny finished first in the girls’ 800m category.

After three days of competition, Vietnam have won 13 golds, 18 silvers and eight bronzes to rank fourth in the medal tally.

Indonesia are topping the list with 19 golds, 21 silvers and 17 bronzes, followed by Thailand with 19 golds, 13 silvers and 19 bronzes. The host team, Singapore, is ranked fifth with 17 golds, 19 silvers and 19 bronzes.

Around 1,750 students from all 10 ASEAN member countries are participating in the event, which will conclude on July 20./.
