On January 3, at United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), the staff of Vietnam's Level 2 Field Hospital No. 3 participated in the first flag-raising ceremony of 2022, facing the Fatherland in emotion and pride. Attending the ceremony were Lieutenant Colonel Pham Tan Phong, commander of the Force, head of the UNMISS Mission Working Group.

In front of the national flag and the United Nations flag, the Vietnamese national anthem was played. All eyes turned to the red flag with yellow stars flying in Africa, more than 8,500 kilometers from Vietnam, making the atmosphere of the ceremony even more sacred and emotional. The blue beret military medical soldiers are honored and proud to have contributed to the color of the country's flag, where countries are joining hands to maintain peace and bring a better life to the people.

The entire staff of the field hospital has worked hard to overcome the double challenge, which is the new outbreak of Covid-19 in Bentiu as well as South Sudan. At the same time, they support local health, in the context of doubling the number of cases due to floods, and a shortage of surgeons and X-ray technicians. Along with professional activities, the hospital also organizes many movements to support local people.

Lieutenant Colonel Pham Tan Phong appreciated the outstanding achievements of the unit in the fields of professional work, foreign affairs and communication. This contributes to leaving a strong impression on international friends as well as local people about the good image of the Vietnam People's Army, and at the same time affirms Vietnam's commitment to contribute to world peace.

On this occasion, Lieutenant Colonel Pham Tan Phong presented awards and titles to recognize the outstanding contributions of groups and individuals of the field hospital in the implementation of the mission in 2021.

Previously, on the occasion of the new year, Vietnam's Level 2 Field Hospital No. 3 launched the movement to plant trees in 2022 throughout the unit. This is an activity in the project of 1000 trees - the hospital's initiative to green the hospital campus, units and organizations in the base and schools in the area.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Pham Tan Phong: “Planting trees is a meaningful activity that contributes to building and improving the hospital's living environment. At the same time, it contributes to spreading President Ho Chi Minh's thought and the tree-growing culture of the Vietnamese people to international friends. Each green sprout is the hope for a bright future for South Sudan as well as for the whole world, especially in the context of increasing climate change and South Sudan is suffering the heaviest flood disaster in 60 years.

Salute the flag and sing the national anthem is a sacred ceremony, expressing patriotism, national pride and responsibility of each citizen to the country and the people. With that sacred meaning, the flag-raising ceremony is regularly maintained by the Vietnam's Level 2 Field Hospital No. 3 in South Sudan, every first Monday of the month. The image of the red flag with a yellow star flying in the sky of South Sudan next to the blue flag of the United Nations is beautiful and full of emotions.
