Also, the special event attracted hundreds of locals, particularly the members of the elderly associations in France. They had the opportunity to enjoy a performance by the Olympia Inter-level High School Choir from Vietnam, to learn the traditional crafts. While interacting with young Vietnamese people, they shared many special, heart-warming memories. There are French volunteers supporting the program, and sharing about the local culture with young Vietnamese.
At the opening ceremony on June 21, Bertrand Affilé, Mayor of Saint Herblain, and Vice Mayors Sarah Tendron, Driss Said, Farida Rebouh, and Myriam Gandolphe attended.
In his remarks, Saint Herblain’s Mayor praised the large-scale and wonderful exhibition.
“There are various activities, such as concerts or documentary film screenings. Many people here and nearby know Vietnamese culture and cuisine, the country, and the people. I would like to thank the members of the project, who I know have spent at least six months on this thorough preparation," said the Mayor.

The highlight of the Vietnam Week at Saint Herblain is the premiere of the documentary film "Hands Nourishing the Fire of Traditions”. It was held at the Lutétia Cinema (Saint Herblain). This is a project made by talented young Vietnamese team living in many countries, under the Toucher Arts project. The film tells the journey through five typical craft villages of Vietnam: Bamboo hats of Chuong village, ceramics of Bat Trang village, paper fans of Canh Son village, Thach Xa bamboo dragonflies of Thach Xa village, and folk paintings of Dong Ho village.
The history of the craft village, the passion, enthusiasm of artisans for the traditional crafts, and their experiences in the digital age... are told through the creative multi-dimensional perspectives of young filmmakers. They successfully portrayed the bond between generations of artisans, with cultural heritage and tradition.
The 14-year-old Hector from Nantes, one of the audience, said that the event allowed him to meet a lot of Vietnamese people in the community.
“They showed me a lot about Vietnamese culture. For me, the film is very interesting because it talks about 5 special craft villages. I really like the part about the fan-making village, especially the stages of making a fan,” said Hector.
Marie Nguyen from Saint Herblain shared that she has been to Vietnam about 15 times.
“I am grateful for this film, for the wonderful showcase of Vietnamese culture. The video about the bamboo dragonfly-making village and the story of the artisan who supported the whole family with his love for his craft, the images of Dong Ho paintings are very beautiful. I hope this film will be introduced in more places,” said Marie.

Another highlight of the Vietnam Week is the painting exhibition "Brilliant Vietnam", where 150 outstanding artworks were displayed. They are selected from nearly 1,000 paintings from Vietnamese children in 17 countries.
With the theme of cultural heritage included in the list of preservation and promotion, the young artists brought a rich and diverse collection. They introduced the full colors of Vietnam's cultural heritage, from Hue songs, Bac Ninh officials, etc, the Central Highlands gong dance, to the Do Son buffalo fighting festival, Champa pottery village, Bat Trang ceramics...
There are also 30 special artworks with the theme "Around Vietnam" by students of the Olympia School (Hanoi) displayed at the exhibition.
Doriance Brun, a local resident of Saint Herblain, shared that for three years, she has participated in many exhibition events of the Art Space Association with her three daughters.
“This year, we spent an hour looking at the paintings, and it was amazing. I also had the opportunity to taste some Vietnamese specialties, to partake in bamboo mat decoration or paper fan making activities, and even calligraphy to have a better understanding of Vietnamese culture. I will invite all my friends and will also bring my daughters back to the exhibition in the next few days,” said the female guest.
