On October 1, the Binh Thang Border Guard Control Station under the Giao Long Port Border Guard Station received a report from the owner of fishing vessel BT-99658-TS that crew member Hong Van Phuoc, born in 1984 and residing in Phu Hung Hamlet, Phu Thuan Commune, Vinh Long Province, had suffered gas poisoning while working aboard the vessel. His condition was reported to be serious, with his life potentially at risk.

Following the incident, Phuoc was transferred to fishing vessel VL-99239-TS to be transported ashore for emergency treatment. Upon receiving the report, the Binh Thang Border Guard Control Station immediately informed the command of the Giao Long Port Border Guard Station.
The unit then dispatched a speedboat carrying five officers and soldiers to quickly reach fishing vessel VL-99239-TS. They helped transfer Phuoc onto the speedboat, provided him with initial first aid, and transported him ashore. After arriving on land, the victim was taken to Military Hospital 120 for emergency treatment, monitoring, and further care.

Thanks to the timely detection, first aid, and transportation ashore, Phuoc's condition has since stabilized, and he is no longer in life-threatening danger.
The swift mobilization of personnel and vessels to rescue, provide first aid to and transport the injured crew member ashore for medical treatment demonstrates the proactive and responsible approach of officers and soldiers of the Vinh Long Border Guard. The efforts also contributed to safeguarding the lives of fishermen working at sea.
When coastal fishery resources declined, many Vietnamese fishermen took the initiative to shift from traditional fishing to new livelihoods such as aquaculture, trading, and community-based tourism. These transitions have not only helped them stabilize their lives but also contributed to the sustainable protection of marine resources for the future. |
A mock trial built from real-life situations, simulating the prosecution and adjudication of acts involving organizing illegal exit for others and disabling vessel monitoring systems, has delivered a vivid legal lesson to the fishing communities in Vung Tau Ward and Long Hai Commune (Ho Chi Minh City). |
