War Invalids' and Martyrs' Day commemorated nationwide
An arts programme themed ‘Commemorating Our Companions’ was held in Hanoi on July 8 to mark the 70th anniversary of War Invalids' and Martyrs' Day (1947-2017).

The event, hosted by the Vietnam War Veterans’ Association, was attended by National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu and former President Truong Tan Sang, among other Party and State leaders.
The programme featured songs and dances praising the love for motherland, as well as the honoring the Vietnamese soldiers who sacrificed their lives for national independence.
At the event, Vietnamese heroic mothers, heroes of people’s armed forces, outstanding war veterans and businesses, were presented with presents and certificates of merit in recognition for their contributions to the country.
A total of VND 69 billion (US$ 3 million) was raised by businesses and donors for the Vietnam National Fund for the Vietnamese Children, the Fund for Study Encouragement and the Fund for Supporting Students, among others.
On the same day, Politburo member, Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of PCC Economics Commission Nguyen Van Binh led a delegation to pay tribute to the fallen soliders at the Truong Son and Road 9 National Martyrs' Cemeteries, in Quang Tri province.

The delegates expressed their gratitude and deep appreciation for the huge contributions made by the war martyrs, who laid down their lives to bring independence and freedom to the country and happiness to the people.
Also yesterday, General Ngo Xuan Lich, Politburo member and Minister of Defence visited and presented gifts worth a total of VND 1 billion (US$ 44,000) to families of policy beneficiaries and war invalids in Ha Nam province.
Meanwhile, doctors from the Military Hospital 211 provided free check-ups and medicines to 500,000 policy beneficiaries and poor people of ethnic minority groups in Bo Ngoong commune, Chu Se district, Gia Lai province from July 7 to 9. They have also presented 520 gifts to war invalids and families of war martyrs in the locality./.
