The “Red journey for research and study” program for Vietnamese youth in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China, is taking place from August 24 to 28, 2026. The program is jointly organized by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations.

The Vietnamese delegation comprises young people from the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, central-level agencies, universities, and the provinces and cities of Nghe An, Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh Long and Dong Nai.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations Nguyen Ngoc Hung emphasized that the journey in Guangzhou is particularly meaningful because the city was closely associated with President Ho Chi Minh’s revolutionary activities during his quest to find a path to national salvation. Guangzhou was where a solid ideological and organizational foundation was laid for the establishment of the Communist Party of Viet Nam on February 3, 1930. Political training courses for Vietnamese patriotic youth were once held in Guangzhou. The first issue of Thanh Nien, the publication of the Viet Nam Revolutionary Youth League and a cornerstone of the Vietnamese revolutionary press, was also published there.

From the classes held in Guangzhou in the previous century, the Vietnamese revolution overcame numerous difficulties to achieve independence and freedom, and continued along the path of renewal and international integration. On this occasion, Nguyen Ngoc Hung also expressed his gratitude for the wholehearted assistance provided by the Party, State and people of China to Viet Nam’s revolutionary cause.

Nguyen Ngoc Hung added that today, Guangdong is one of China’s and the world’s leading engines of innovation-driven development. Guangdong is at the forefront of the “greening” trend through its industrial restructuring strategy, clean energy development and the development of carbon finance in the Greater Bay Area. These experiences are valuable as Viet Nam pursues sustainable development and makes strong commitments to global environmental protection.

He called on young people to take the lead in learning and creative work. Young people should become ambassadors of peace and actively contribute to strengthening and developing the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Viet Nam and China. He said that each meeting, exchange and experience throughout the journey would provide young people with opportunities to deepen their understanding of each other’s countries, people and cultures.

Speaking at the ceremony, Cheng Haibo of the East Asian Affairs Department of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries emphasized that since the Red Journey was launched, the Association has worked closely with the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations to successfully organize two rounds of activities in Chongqing and Guangxi.

The activities in Guangzhou, Guangdong, are being held under the theme “Inheriting revolutionary traditions - Experiencing modern achievements - Jointly developing cooperation plans.”

The selection of Guangzhou as a destination of the “Red journey for research and study” carries profound significance. Guangzhou is an important historical site where President Ho Chi Minh and other Vietnamese revolutionary predecessors once carried out revolutionary activities. The city is also an important witness to the “comrades and brothers” friendship between the two Parties and the peoples of China and Viet Nam.

In the coming days, young Vietnamese and Chinese delegates will retrace President Ho Chi Minh’s revolutionary footsteps in Guangzhou. The program will also take the delegates to visit high-tech enterprises and modern infrastructure facilities. These activities will enable the delegates to experience the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and China’s path toward modernization.

He affirmed that in the future, the Association will continue working with the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations to implement important common understandings reached by the top leaders of the two Parties and the two countries. They will also build more bridges for people-to-people exchanges, substantive cooperation, cultural exchanges, and friendship among young people and teenagers.
