According to the remains recovery team under the Ho Chi Minh City High Command, search and recovery operations continued on August 1 at the second excavation site in Area B of the park.

Personnel focused on removing soil and expanding the search area around a burial trench, processing more than 200m³ of soil to reach locations suspected of containing soldiers’ remains.

As the area consists of an artificial mound created during the park’s renovation, a relatively large volume of soil must be removed. The Ho Chi Minh City High Command deployed three excavators and one dump truck to transport the earth and organised continuous operations to accelerate the search.

During the day, the forces discovered and recovered eight sets of remains, seven of which were accompanied by personal effects. The items will be used to support verification, cross-checking and identification efforts.

From June 23 to the end of August 1, 2026, competent forces had recovered a total of 168 sets of fallen soldiers’ remains, including 146 individual sets and 22 sets found at four mass-grave sites. Two of the mass graves were discovered in Area A and the other two in Area B.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City High Command, the unit would coordinate with the construction unit to prepare the necessary conditions for relocating a memorial stele located within the search area, while continuing to expand excavations in Area A.

The memorial stele will be relocated in accordance with established procedures, ensuring safety, preserving the structure and maintaining the solemnity of the memorial site.
