Based on the examination results, individuals receive advice and guidance on appropriate monitoring or treatment, thereby minimizing the risk of conditions progressing to a severe stage.

This initiative is a key component of the universal healthcare strategy being implemented in Ca Mau, marking a gradual shift in mindset from “treating illness” to “preventing disease” and enhancing the quality of healthcare at the grassroots level.

According to the People's Committee of Phong Hiep Commune, the health screening program covers a vast scale across the province. Previous rounds of the program have provided examinations for hundreds of thousands of residents, identifying numerous cases of illness or risk factors that require ongoing monitoring and treatment.

Against this backdrop, the 45-day intensive campaign in Phong Hiep Commune serves as a period for the local political system to focus on identifying eligible individuals, intensifying public outreach to encourage participation, and organizing health check-ups in a manner that is convenient, systematic, and effective.

Launching the campaign, Ngo Thi Nhu Y, Vice Chairwoman of the Phong Hiep Commune People's Committee, emphasized that public healthcare is a vital and ongoing responsibility of the local government. She noted that periodic health check-ups and screenings must be conducted substantively and effectively, ensuring they reach every resident.

“The 45-day campaign aims not only to accelerate the pace of health check-ups but, more importantly, to shift awareness - helping every resident understand that proactively checking their health is a way to protect themselves and their families,” Ngo Thi Nhu Y stated.

According to the Vice Chairwoman, the locality will mobilize various sectors, mass organizations, village authorities, and grassroots medical personnel. They are determined to meet set targets and ensure that no eligible resident is overlooked.

Public communication has been identified as a key task for the campaign's success. Information regarding schedules, locations, the scope of examinations, and the benefits of periodic check-ups is being actively disseminated to every residential area and target group.

Working alongside the health sector, local forces are coordinating to identify eligible individuals, compile lists, issue notifications, and encourage resident participation. Organizing check-ups by target group and location helps increase participation rates while minimizing the risk of missing eligible individuals or causing overcrowding at any single time.

At the Phong Hiep Commune Health Station, preparations have been comprehensively implemented, covering everything from staffing, equipment, and examination areas to reception procedures, patient triage, consultation, and post-examination guidance.

“Every resident visiting the station have access to a convenient examination process, receive health status consultations, and, crucially, be given specific guidance if any abnormalities or risk factors are detected. We view this as an opportunity to further elevate the role of primary healthcare,” Dr. Nguyen Lap Cong shared.

According to Dr. Nguyen Lap Cong, early disease detection and ongoing local health management not only help protect individual health but also mitigate the risk of conditions worsening, lower treatment costs, and reduce the burden on higher-level medical facilities.

A notable feature of the 2026 health screening program is the integration of in-person examinations with electronic health data management.

Examination results are recorded, categorized, monitored, and updated in electronic health records. This establishes a foundation for the healthcare sector to manage residents' health continuously, shifting away from an approach that only engages individuals when symptoms appear.

The creation of electronic health records also helps prevent the fragmentation of health information that often occurs when patients seek care at multiple facilities. Comprehensive and continuous data updates facilitate better health monitoring and enable authorities to identify prevalent health issues within the community, thereby allowing for appropriate care strategies.

From a primary healthcare perspective, this initiative also offers an opportunity to improve the quality of health management by adopting a proactive, long-term approach that prioritizes disease prevention.

Beyond a “45-Day Campaign”

The 45-day campaign reflects a sense of urgency and determination to accelerate the achievement of health check-up and screening targets. However, the program’s objectives extend beyond the conclusion of this peak period.

Crucially, the initiative aims to foster a lasting community habit of proactive health check-ups, while ensuring that individuals diagnosed with illnesses or identified as being at risk receive continued monitoring, management, and appropriate counseling.

Therefore, the effectiveness of this peak period must be evaluated from two perspectives: meeting immediate screening targets and establishing a foundation for the long-term management and care of public health.

In doing so, it contributes to shifting awareness and actions regarding community health, gradually cultivating habits of proactive disease prevention, improving population quality, and reinforcing the role of grassroots healthcare in serving the public.
