Central Highlands provinces post record export turnover in 2017

(VNF) – According to the Steering Committee for Central Highlands Region, exports of Vietnam’s Central Highlands provinces hit more than 2.66 trillion USD in 2017, a year-on-year rise of 22.71 percent and the highest so far.

This is the highest ever export revenue of the region which is attributed by more perse types of export goods, said the Steering Committee.

Dak Lak was the leading export locality in the region, raking in USD 575 million in the reviewed period, up 4.55 percent against the previous year.

The province has exported major products including coffee, pepper, rubber, alumina, honey, cassava, cashew nuts, vegetables and honey.

Dak Lak’s raw coffee has been exported to 75 countries and territories across the world, namely Germany, Japan, US, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain and Mexico, among others, with revenue reaching 10 million USD each

The Central Highlands, including five provinces Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, Kon Tum and Lam Dong region is blessed with fertile basalt-rich earth and a climate that enables coffee plants to thrive. The region has become famous as the ‘Kingdom of Coffee’, earning Vietnam second place among the world’s top coffee exporters.

The region is home to roughly 570,000 hectares of coffee trees, producing over 1.6 million tonnes annually. Besides the exports of raw coffee, the Central Highlands provinces have also encouraged domestic and foreign firms to invest in building coffee processing plants to enhance the added values of coffee products, the leading export product of the region.

The provinces also have stepped up trade promotion activities, sought new importers while expanding new selling methods to major partners worldwide./.
