PM Minh informed US Special Presidential Envoy on Climate John Kerry, who is visiting Vietnam from February 22 to 25, that shifting to a green, circular, low-carbon growth model is also a major, urgent job for the Vietnamese government.

The Deputy Prime Minister urged Kerry to continue to support the US in increasing financial and technical assistance to Vietnam in order to enable the country to meet its pledge to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 set at the 26th United Nations Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP26).

He praised the progress made in the Vietnam-US comprehensive relationship in all areas, noting that two-way trade reached 111 billion dollars last year.

He commended Kerry for his efforts and achievements during the decades-long normalization and strengthening of Vietnam-US relations.

The Deputy Prime Minister urged that the two countries work together to promote bilateral ties in a stable, long-term, pragmatic, and effective manner in the future.

He also commended the US government for donating 29.1 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to Vietnam and praised the US resolve to increase financing to deal with the war's aftermath in the Southeast Asian country.

Minh proposed that the US continue to support Vietnam in areas such as education and training, health care, humanitarian aid, and the digital economy.

In response, Kerry reaffirmed the US commitment to upholding Vietnam's political institutions, independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, while also emphasizing that the US values its comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam and hopes to take it to new heights in the future.

He praised Vietnam's commitment to net-zero emissions and stated that the US will continue to improve cooperation and assist developing countries, including Vietnam, in responding to climate change, particularly in clean energy development, infrastructure, and water and other natural resources management.

He said the US will take up programs aimed at resolving war-related issues, such as dioxin contamination remediation at Bien Hoa airport in Dong Nai's southern province, and would increase partnership with Vietnam in education, training, development, and science and technology, according to VietnamPlus.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Minh expressed his hope that the United States would strengthen comprehensive, long-term, and inclusive cooperation in the region, support ASEAN's intra-bloc solidarity and centrality, and promote the ASEAN-US strategic partnership as well as the Mekong-US partnership.

The two sides also discussed international and regional issues, such as the East Sea dispute.

They pledged to work together in the United Nations (UN) and other multilateral forums to help maintain peace, stability, security, and development in the region and around the world.
