The units also focused on raising awareness about the role and importance of combating IUU fishing, as well as the obligations and benefits of fishermen during fishing operations. Vessel owners and fishermen were encouraged to fully understand and commit to complying with domestic policies, laws, and international obligations in protecting the marine environment; to avoid violating foreign maritime zones when exploiting seafood; to maintain the vessel monitoring system (VMS) operating 24/24 hours from departure to arrival at port; not to remove or transfer the monitoring device to another vessel; to report acts of illegal fishing; and to promptly reflect efforts and achievements in combating IUU fishing in the area.
