Côte d’Ivoire Praises Vietnam’ Socio-economic Development
These events are within the framework of the official visit of the high-level officials to the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire from July 9 to 12, 2025.
During the talks and meetings with senior leaders of Côte d’Ivoire, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Vu Hong Thanh expressed his joy in his first visit to Côte d’Ivoire, approaching the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (October 6, 1975 - October 6, 2025). He deeply appreciated the warm welcome from the Côte d’Ivoire side to the delegation.
Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Vu Hong Thanh respectfully conveyed President Luong Cuong’s invitation to President of Côte d’Ivoire Alassane Ouattara to attend the Signing Ceremony of the United Nations Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communications Technologies for Criminal Purposes, which will be held in Hanoi in October 2025.
Appreciating Côte d’Ivoire’s achievements in ensuring political and social stability, maintaining a high economic growth rate, and continuously improving the investment and business environment, efforts that aim to transform Côte d’Ivoire into an emerging country by 2030, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Vu Hong Thanh affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to and wishes to further develop friendly and cooperative relations with African friends, including Côte d’Ivoire, which is Vietnam’s second-largest trading partner in Africa, with bilateral trade reaching nearly US $1.3 billion in 2024.
Also, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Vu Hong Thanh emphasized that in order to enter a new era of prosperous development, the whole Vietnamese political system is focusing on promoting the revolution in streamlining the apparatus, building two-tier local governments, promoting the "four pillars" of national science, technology, innovation and digital transformation, international integration, private economic development, and renewing the work of law formulation and enforcement.
In response, leaders of Côte d’Ivoire highly appreciated the visit of Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Vu Hong Thanh. They praised Vietnam's socio-economic development, considering Vietnam as a model in poverty reduction, investment attraction and national development.
Vice Chairman of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire Woi Mela Gaston emphasized that Vietnam is a "great friend" of Côte d’Ivoire and that the Vietnam-Côte d’Ivoire friendship is constantly strengthened on all channels. Thanks to the good bilateral relationship, cooperation in the fields of economy and trade has experienced positive results.

On the other hand, Vice President of the Senate Sarra Fadika Sako considers Vietnam the "dragon of Asia”. The two countries have a lot in common in their efforts to reform and develop the economy, and have a lot of room for South-South cooperation.
According to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Côte d’Ivoire Overseas Kacou Houadja Léon Adom, the visits contribute to promoting parliamentary cooperation as well as people-to-people exchanges. He believed this is "a visit by the Vietnamese people to the people of Côte d’Ivoire".
Senior leaders exchanged and agreed on several measures to further strengthen bilateral relations. The two sides agreed to make cooperation on the parliamentary channel one of the pillars of bilateral cooperation; promote the mechanism of close consultation and coordination at multilateral parliamentary forums, especially within the framework of the World Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Francophone Parliamentary Union (APF). They also agree to actively implement the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the two National Assemblies and study the establishment of the Vietnam-Côte d’Ivoire Friendship Parliamentarians Group in the coming time.

Vietnam - Côte d’Ivoire political trust will be further strengthened through delegation exchanges at all levels, negotiation and signing of basic cooperation documents such as the Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement, the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement, and the Memorandum of Understanding on economic and trade cooperation. This initiative will help creating legal favorable conditions for bilateral cooperation.
To improve economic, trade, and investment cooperation effectively and substantively, the two sides agreed to promote traditional cooperation fields such as cashew and rice import and export. State management agencies need to encourage businesses on both sides to increase information sharing, attend fairs and exhibitions in each country, expand items such as textiles, leather, footwear, building materials, electrical equipment, and Halal products. It is also important to promote trilateral agricultural cooperation and promote cooperation in the banking sector.
On this occasion, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Vu Hong Thanh asked that Côte d’Ivoire continue to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in the host country. The community can contribute to the development of Côte d’Ivoire. It is also an important bridge to promote friendly relations between the two countries.
Regarding cooperation at multilateral forums, he thanked Côte d’Ivoire for supporting Vietnam's candidacy for international multilateral organizations. His suggestion stressed that the two sides must keep the tradition of coordination and mutual support in multilateral forums. At the regional level, he suggested that Côte d’Ivoire support and act as a bridge for Vietnam to promote relations with the African Union (AU), regional organizations of which Côte d’Ivoire is a member, such as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Vietnam is ready to act as a bridge and support the strengthening of cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and ASEAN and member countries, he affirmed.
