It is also a gift of honor, coming from a hardworking and heroic people who have risen from many wars and are now admired by the world for their sustainable development.”

The Cuban President also shared a post by Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam, Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, who wrote that “we are deeply moved by the enthusiastic participation of the Vietnamese people in the campaign to support Cuba recently launched by the Vietnam Red Cross Society.”

Earlier, on August 15, in an interview with the press, Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes highlighted the special affection the Vietnamese people hold for the Cuban people. He added that the Cuban Embassy is ready to coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure that the support from the Vietnamese people is carried out effectively, bringing the greatest impact to the Cuban people.

“The friendship between the peoples of Vietnam and Cuba has been forged through history. The Cuban people always cherish and admire the Vietnamese people, and likewise, the Vietnamese people have always shown deep affection and attachment to Cuba.

In recent hours, the demonstrations of solidarity by thousands of Vietnamese citizens have far exceeded our expectations.

What has impressed us is not only the numbers - the fundraising goal was met within just a few hours - but, more importantly, the tremendous moral support. This will stand as an example for the relationship between Vietnam and Cuba, as well as for international relations among nations.

The achievements of recent times would not have been possible without the special bond between the two countries, a bond nurtured by President Fidel Castro and President Ho Chi Minh, as well as generations of leaders and peoples. Solidarity with Cuba has taken root in the hearts of every Vietnamese citizen, manifested in concrete actions to help a distant country facing hardship. This is a truly great and extraordinary expression of solidarity,” Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes said.

The campaign to support the Cuban people is led by the Vietnam Red Cross Society in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Training, the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association, and many other agencies, units, and media organizations. Themed “65 Years of Vietnam-Cuba Friendship”, the campaign will run for 65 days (from August 13 to October 16, 2025).

The initiative seeks to mobilize resources to provide food, essential goods, and medical supplies and to implement sustainable humanitarian activities to help the Cuban people overcome challenges caused by pandemics, natural disasters, and the embargo.

According to the Vietnam Red Cross Society, as of 6:00 p.m. on August 16, the campaign had received 1.375 million donations, totaling VND 271.9 billion - over four times the minimum target of VND 65 billion set for the entire campaign.
