Vietnam and Cuba Sign Agreement On Judicial Cooperation

From August 11–12, a delegation from Vietnam’s Ministry of Justice, led by Party Central Committee member and Minister Nguyen Hai Ninh, paid a visit to Cuba to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the judicial sector.

According to the Vietnam News Agency’s correspondent in Havana, during talks with Cuban Justice Minister Oscar Manuel Silvera Martínez, Minister Nguyen Hai Ninh highlighted the special bond between the two brotherly nations over the past 65 years. He reaffirmed that the immortal words of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro: “For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to shed its blood!”, remain deeply etched in the hearts of every Vietnamese.

The Party, State, and people of Vietnam always cherish and remain grateful for the wholehearted, sincere, and selfless support extended by the Cuban people during the years of struggle for national independence and reunification, as well as in the current cause of national building, defense, and development.

For the Vietnamese people, Cuba has always stood as a symbol of revolutionary heroism, international solidarity, and steadfast resolve in the fight for freedom and progress worldwide.

Minister Nguyen Hai Ninh emphasized that the effective cooperation between the two Ministries of Justice contributes to further strengthening the special solidarity, friendship, and comprehensive bilateral cooperation.

Cuban Justice Minister Oscar Manuel Silvera Martínez praised the sound cooperation between the two ministries in recent years and expressed gratitude for the valuable support from Vietnam’s Ministry of Justice. He also briefed the Vietnamese side on Cuba’s legislative process following the adoption of its new Constitution in 2019.

The two sides exchanged experiences in law-making work, such as the process of reviewing passed laws and developing new regulations.

After the talks, Minister Nguyen Hai Ninh and Minister Oscar Manuel Silvera Martínez signed an agreement on a technical assistance project for the Cuban Ministry of Justice to enhance its capacity in legal development and implementation.

During a meeting with First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, Minister Nguyen Hai Ninh reported on the outcomes of his working session with the Cuban Ministry of Justice, affirming that the signing of the agreement is part of the effort to concretize the joint statement issued during the visit to Cuba by General Secretary To Lam in September 2024.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel highly valued the exchange of experiences in the law-making process between the two countries and the signing of the judicial cooperation agreement. He highlighted the close friendship and cooperation between the peoples of the two nations: a historic relationship built on the camaraderie between President Ho Chi Minh and other Vietnamese leaders with Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, General Raúl Castro Ruz, and many other Cuban leaders, as well as the Cuban people.
