Japan’s newly-appointed Consul General in Da Nang Yakabe Yoshinori on March 18 paid a courtesy visit to leaders of the Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs.
With the approval of the Vietnamese Government, Yoshinori said the Japanese Embassy in Hanoi had announced the upgrade of the Consulate Office in Da Nang into the Consulate General, covering Da Nang, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, and Binh Dinh.
The Consul General expressed his hope for more support from the municipal Department of Foreign Affairs in recruitment, the location of the new headquarters, and the arrangement of meetings with city officials.
Yoshinori also pledged to make efforts to step up exchanges and investment and trade ties between Japan and Da Nang, as well as cities and provinces in the central region, thus contributing to boosting the Vietnam-Japan relationship.
Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs Huynh Duc Truong congratulated the Japanese diplomat on his new position and vowed that the department would create the most favorable conditions for the Consulate General to operate effectively.
He called for support from the new Consul General to promote cooperation between Da Nang and Japanese localities and partners, especially in organizing events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan.
According to a 2021 survey of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) on 700 Japanese FDI enterprises in Vietnam, there was a significant increase in Japanese investment in Vietnam’s non-manufacturing industries, such as retailing, education, healthcare, energy, finance and insurance, transport and real estate.
The survey has found that some 51.7% of Japanese FDI firms in the manufacturing sector plan to expand business in Vietnam over the next one to two years, up 4.6% year-on-year. About 58.7% of non-manufacturing companies want to do the same, up 12.1%.
