Photographer Si So was born in 1942 in Dong Thanh ward, Dong Ha city, Quang Tri province. Now 81 years old, he is a member of the Vietnam Photographic Association and the International Federation of Photographers. When Fidel Castro came to Quang Tri in 1973, he was in charge of photography for Quang Tri's Department of Culture and Information.
Four decades ago, on September 15, 1973, President Fidel Castro set foot on the famous battlefield of Quang Tri on his first visit to Vietnam. Si So was assigned by Ho Sy Than, the then Secretary of Quang Tri's Party Committee, to take photos of the Cuban president.
Allowed to accompany Quang Tri's leaders in all activities on the trip, Si So could take many photos of Fidel Castro, which were then published in a book named "Fidel Castro - Quang Tri, a historical day in 1973."
