The Russian government is allowing university students from 25 countries including Vietnam to resume their studies in the country.

The returning students will need to notify their universities by email 10 days ahead of arrival and submit two coronavirus tests using real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) within 72 hours before and after landing in Russia, the World & Vietnam Report under Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

After landing in Russia, the foreign students will be quarantined at home and will study online until they show their second negative results.

There are now 6,000 Vietnamese students in Russia, Vnexpress reported.

Previously, in January, Russia lifted a travel ban for Finland, Vietnam, India, and Qatar that was imposed last year to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

The government said the citizens of these countries would be able to travel to Russia by plane. Russians would also be allowed to fly to these countries.

The move came only more than a week after the Russian anti-coronavirus crisis center made a decision to resume reciprocal international air routes between the Russian capital of Moscow and Hanoi, New Delhi, Helsinki, and Doha from January 27.

Vietnam saw three imported COVID-19 cases in the past 12 hours to 6 pm of March 22, raising the national count to 2,575, according to the Health Ministry.

Of the total patients, 1,601 were locally transmitted cases, including 908 since January 27.

Also on the same day, 36 more patients were given the all-clear, raising the total number of recoveries to date to 2,234.

Among the patients still under treatment, 36 have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once, 17 twice and 55 thrice. The death toll remains at 35.

37,754 people are being quarantined nationwide, with 490 at hospitals, 18,620 at concentrated quarantine facilities, and 18,644 at their accommodations.

Meanwhile, Russia is the world's fourth-biggest Covid-19 hotspot, with 4.4 million infections and 95,000 deaths.
