At the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang highly appreciated the visit to Vietnam of the Franco-Vietnamese Friendship Parliamentarian Group. She noted that the visit took place at a time when the Vietnam-France Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is developing strongly.

The Franco-Vietnamese Friendship Parliamentarians Group of the French Senate has made concrete and practical contributions to Vietnam’s national development, to the Vietnam-France relations. She believed that the Friendship Parliamentarian Groups in each country further promote the role of a bridge to promote cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries, in particular, and Vietnam-France relations in general.

Representing the delegation, Chairman Senator Alain Cadec expressed the positive impression towards the beauty of Vietnam, its people and the achievements of its socio-economic development. Delighted with the historical and cultural connections between the two countries, especially the ancient French architectural works that are still preserved and present in the daily lives of the people, Chairman Senator Alain Cadec stressed that the French Senate and the Franco-Vietnamese Friendship Parliamentarians Group pay great attention to promoting the further development of bilateral relations to commensurate with the current level of the France-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He affirmed that the Franco-Vietnamese Friendship Parliamentarians Group is eager to accompany Vietnam in the new development period.

Agreeing with the proposal of Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, Chairman Senator Alain Cadec affirmed that the two sides need to maximize the potential of economic cooperation, especially in strategic fields such as infrastructure with seaport, aviation, high-speed rail projects, and urban traffic. It is also important to cooperate to diversify and ensure energy sources; as well as to unanimously support promoting the French Parliament to soon ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA). He acknowledged Vietnam's efforts in implementing the EU's recommendations on fishing and promised to have a voice in pushing the European Commission (EC) to soon remove the Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing yellow card for Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized that Vietnam attaches great importance to and appreciates France's support and cooperation in the fields of education, training of high-quality human resources, science, technology and innovation, health, culture, archives and conservation. She proposed that the two sides deepen and further expand cooperation in the above fields, including embellishing and promoting the historical and cultural values of Long Bien Bridge.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang suggested that the Franco-Vietnamese Friendship Parliamentarian Group and French Senators, with their roles and voices, continue to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to work, study and integrate well in France.

Both sides agreed to further promote tourism cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, Francophones, connect localities, and organize the 13th Vietnam-France Cooperation Conference in France.

Regarding the South China Sea issue, the two sides reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, prosperity and order based on international law, emphasized the importance of freedom and safety of navigation and overflight in the South China Sea, and supported ASEAN's position on resolving disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law especially the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).
