The Vietnam-Germany Friendship Association held a working session on June 23 with the German-Vietnamese Society (Deutsch–Vietnamesische Gesellschaft or DVG) to discuss their common aspirations for promoting the development of the Vietnamese language in Germany, as part of the association's ongoing working trip to Germany.
The host warmly received and worked with the delegation of the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Association. Attending the working session on the German side were DVG Chairman Rolf Schulze and many members of the Executive Committee.
On the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Association's side, the delegation was led by Dr. Nguyen Toan Thang, its Permanent Vice President, and also attended the working session with Vice President Nguyen Huu Trang and several members of the Executive Committee.

Schulze, who is also former German Ambassador to Vietnam, introduced to the Vietnamese delegation the activities of the association, focusing on using the extensive knowledge of its members to advise German businesses and organizations on issues related to Vietnam to strengthen and consolidate the friendship and solidarity between the two nations and develop cooperation in the fields of culture, society, economy, scientific research, vocational training, environment and digital transformation.
On behalf of the DVG, he also introduced the guests their major events in 2025 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, specifically a Vietnam Symposium on June 25 in Berlin and a gathering with typical representatives of the second generation of Vietnamese people in Germany to be held in Hamburg in September 2025.
For his part, Dr. Nguyen Toan Thang introduced the 40-year history of the association as well as the principles and goals, which are to contribute to boosting national understanding between the two countries through its activities, enhancing cultural exchanges, delegation exchanges, granting scholarships to students, organizing seminars, meetings and contacts with German political institutes in Vietnam, with organizations such as DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) to enhance cooperation in the fields of culture, science, education, vocational training, labor export, among others.
The two sides also discussed the common desire to promote the development of the Vietnamese language in Germany, specifically as a lever in encouraging higher education institutions to reopen Vietnamese language departments in a number of German universities in Berlin, Frankfurt, and Passau.

The two leaders then signed a document on international cooperation measures between the two associations as a premise for the Memorandum of Understanding on international cooperation expected to be signed between the two associations at the end of 2026.
This is the first time that, at the invitation of the DVG, the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Association has sent a delegation to visit and work in Germany. The first working session right after the Vietnamese delegation arrived in Berlin took place in a warm, friendly, and fruitful atmosphere.
In the coming days, there will be numerous meetings and exchanges between the two associations, particularly at the Vietnam Symposium, which will be held by the DVG in collaboration with the FOM University of Applied Sciences for Economics and Management (FOM) on June 25 in Berlin.
