Answering a DZBB interview, the Philippines Commanding General said that as of 8:00 pm April 10, the Philippines Western Command recorded 29 Chinese ships, including 6 Coast Guard vessels, 2 militia ships, and 20 fishing ships docking near Whitson Reef.

Chinese assigned these 6 coast guard vessels to Thitu Island, Second Thomas Reef, and Scarborough Shoal. The mentioned 20 fishing ships were presented there, too.

On March 31, a Philippines special working group in charge of the Bien Dong issue quoted intelligence information that 44 Chinese ships were still staying near Whitson Reef (within the territorial waters of Sinh Ton Dong Group, belonging to Vietnam's Spratly). An additional 200 ships scattered docked around other Spratly areas. Together with them, there were 4 Coast Guard vessels.

Previously, on March 21, the Philippines Coast Guard announced that around 200 Chinese militia vessels blatantly lined up near Whitson Reef, which belongs to Vietnam's Spratly Archipelago.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang has affirmed that China has violated Vietnam's sovereignty, while asking it to end the violation on March 25.

“The operation of Chinese ships within the territorial waters of Sinh Ton Dong island in the Spratly has violated Vietnam’s sovereignty and the UNCLOS’s stipulation on the operation of foreign vessels in the territorial waters of coastal nations ran counter to the spirit and content of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the Bien Dong Sea (DOC), and complicated the situation which is unfavorable for the process of negotiations between the ASEAN and China on a Code of Conduct of Parties in the Bien Dong Sea (COC),” VGP quoted the spokesperson.
