In Photo: Close-up look of CSB 8021 Patrol Vessel handed over to Vietnam by US
This set of photos shows the US's John Midgett patrol vessel being repainted and repaired in Seattle, (Washington, USA) before transferred to Vietnam Coast Guard.
Recently, a John Midgett patrol vessel (WHEC 726, 3,450 tons Hamilton ship class), which used to serve in the US Coast Guard has been, has been pulled up for repair at Lake Union Drydock Company (Seatle, Washington, USA). The ship's hull will be repainted with white and red. Refurbishment of machinery and equipment onboard also takes place, along with the training for Vietnam Coast Guard's officers and soldiers on how to control the ship.
Before that, after the elimination ceremony in May 2020, the ship was painted gray to remove the symbols and signs of the US Coast Guard. On January 13, 2021, the ship was towed from the coastal patrol port in Seattle to Lake Union Drydock company to repaint and refurbish.
After 8 weeks of repairing, on March 19, 2021, the ship was towed to the coastal patrol port in Seattle, preparing to be handed over to the Vietnam Coast Guard.
Some experts and engineers of the US Coast Guard supervising the painting and repairing of the ship shared pictures of this process on social networks and said that the ship was given a new name, which is CSB 8021. Previously a group of Hamilton patrol vessels was handed over to the Vietnam Coast Guard. The group is called Morgenthau (WHEC 722), before receiving the new name of CSB 8020.

The Party Committee of the Viet Nam Coast Guard held the 2025 Coast Guard Work Review Conference on December 20. At the conference, the Viet Nam Coast Guard affirmed that combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing would be a key task in 2026, aimed at maintaining legal order at sea and contributing to the removal of the European Commission’s (EC) “yellow card” on Viet Nam’s seafood sector.
During his tenure, Venezuelan Ambassador to Viet Nam Juan Carlos Fernandes Juaréz promoted the signing of numerous important cooperation agreements, strengthened high-level exchanges, and expanded people-to-people interactions across various fields.
